Full job description

We are seeking an Assistant Technician to provide agile, customer-focused technical support across the Faculty of Humanities, supporting teaching, research and professional services activities.

You will be responsible for:

The postholder will be required to communicate confidently and effectively, providing first line support across the University at all levels of the organisation and external contacts escalating any issues as required.
Inspection, basic routine maintenance, servicing, repair and modification of audio visual, electronic and other equipment held across the faculty with an awareness and understanding of relevant health and safety requirements in the workplace
Work with internal stakeholders (e.g. Estates, academic and PS staff) and arrange engineer/contractor visits to resolve any issues related to equipment, estate, Podcast suites, lecture rooms and escalate issues where required. Provide Video and Web conferencing support.
Act as a first point of contact and providing information, advice and guidance on routine matters, knowing when to escalate to others when necessary. Reacting quickly and efficiently to resolve problems and issues when reported through the helpline.
Processing of AV bookings and installing / removing requested equipment in a timely manner.

About You

Essential Criteria:

A qualification in a related subject area e.g. degree, HND, HNC, Level 4 NVQ, etc. or significant work experience in a relevant technical role
Have a working knowledge of media and audio visual technologies including and not limited to: digital display systems, interactive systems, signal switching, scaling and distribution, audio and PA, control systems, media capture and editing, media streaming, video conferencing and digital signal processing.
Excellent IT skills e.g. Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
Have demonstrable experience of working in AV & media
Have good oral and written communication skills

Desirable Criteria:

Have experience of using digital video cameras and knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro or other video/audio manipulation software
Experience of using an equipment inventory system.
A proactive approach and commitment to ongoing personal training and continued professional development (CPD) with a strong interest in acquiring new skills and competencies.
