Full job description

Clouds is the restaurant from the team behind Ah Ma’s Dumplings; a small, but well-established independent business with a passion for producing incredible, nourishing hand-made dim sum and memorable, high quality dining experiences. We use quality, organic, and free-range produce and extend our ethical and environmental principles across the business.

We’re now searching for a Second Chef / Line Chef to join our kitchen team!

The position will be integral to the day-to-day running of the restaurant kitchen and you'll work alongside the Founder/Executive Chef and our Pass Chefs. You'll be supporting the team with the smooth running of kitchen operations; efficiently plating up dishes to a high standard, and ensuring cleanliness and organisation in the kitchen at all times.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a kind and ambitious team, in a fast-paced environment at the heart of a Bristol institution. Ah-Ma’s has just celebrated its 10th year and Clouds has been featured in The Times online article: ‘11 of the best restaurants in Bristol’.

There will be real opportunities for development across the business — Ah-Ma’s has a busy prep kitchen, we trade at markets and events, and have plans to expand our catering and takeaway offering. We want to support our team members in their career progression and personal growth, ensuring a positive work-life balance.

If you have some prior experience as a line chef, or if you're looking to gain experience and develop your career within a kitchen, we'd love to hear from you!

The ideal candidate would:

have experience as a 2nd/Second Line Chef, Commis Chef, or similar role supporting a senior chef
experience in food preparation
be meticulous, proactive and well-organised
be a good communicator and adaptable
be keen to learn and work in a fast-paced environment
be a team player with a positive attitude
be able to follow precise instructions and deliver consistency
looking to be part of a growing business that encompasses all parts of the industry (catering, events, food production)

Desirable but not essential

Familiarity with Cantonese cuisine and dim sum is a plus
Level 2 Food Safety qualification or equivalent

Duties and responsibilities include:

cooking, plating and preparing dishes
assisting with managing the flow of dishes from the kitchen
ensuring kitchen and equipment is cleaned, tidied and maintained
opportunity to support the central kitchen in preparation for both restaurant service and external events

Our points-based TRONC system is distributed monthly based on hours worked. This role typically earns an additional average of approx. £3.20 per hour — though this figure is variable and not guaranteed.
