Full job description

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and hands-on Food & Beverage Assistant Manager to join the team at The Coal Exchange Hotel.

This is a varied role supporting the day-to-day running and development of our restaurant, bars and events operation. We are looking for someone who is operationally strong, enjoys leading from the front and is keen to help drive the restaurant forward and grow the overall F&B business.

You will work closely with the F&B Manager and wider management team, taking responsibility for the smooth running of services while also completing the necessary administrative and organisational tasks behind the scenes.

Key Responsibilities

Support the day-to-day management of the restaurant, bars and events.
Take an active role on the floor, leading the team and ensuring excellent service standards.
Help drive the restaurant forward by improving guest experience, increasing revenue and developing new ideas to generate trade.
Support the planning and delivery of weddings, functions, conferences and other events.
Lead and motivate the F&B team, ensuring high standards of service, presentation and professionalism.
Deliver staff training, inductions, briefings and ongoing coaching.
Implement and maintain SOPs, checklists and operational procedures.
Ensure opening, service and closing standards are consistently followed.
Manage guest feedback and resolve complaints professionally.
Assist with rotas, staffing and shift planning.
Manage stock levels, stock takes, ordering, wastage and stock control.
Support beverage cost control and monitor stock variances.
Ensure food safety, health & safety, licensing and company procedures are followed.
Work closely with the kitchen, events, reception and other hotel departments to ensure excellent communication.
Complete regular operational checks and follow up on issues.
Assist with F&B administration, reporting, invoices, paperwork, rotas, training records and other management tasks.
Monitor sales and performance and identify opportunities to improve revenue and profitability.
Help develop promotions, events and initiatives to increase restaurant and bar trade.
Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation and organisation across all F&B areas.
Lead by example and be prepared to get involved wherever the operation requires.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

Experienced in a hospitality/F&B supervisory or management role.
Hands-on and confident leading a team.
Passionate about delivering excellent service.
Organised and comfortable with both operational and administrative responsibilities.
Commercially aware, with an understanding of sales, stock and cost control.
Confident delivering staff training and implementing procedures.
A strong communicator who works well across departments.
Calm and professional under pressure.
Proactive, motivated and always looking for ways to improve the operation.
Flexible and willing to work mornings, evenings, late nights, weekends and bank holidays as required.

The Role

This is a hands-on management position, but it is not solely a floor-based role. You will spend significant time supporting the operation directly, while also having responsibility for the administration, organisation, planning and development that goes into running a successful F&B department.
