Overview

Join our dynamic team as a Trainee Slate Fabricator / Yard Operative and kick-start your career in the construction and manufacturing industry! This entry-level role offers a fantastic opportunity to develop hands-on skills in fabricating and handling high-quality slate materials. You will be actively involved in supporting the fabrication process, maintaining the yard, and ensuring smooth operations. No prior experience is necessary—just a positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a commitment to safety. This paid position provides valuable training and growth potential within a vibrant, supportive environment.

Duties

Assist with the preparation and cutting of slate materials using hand tools and power tools under supervision
Support the assembly of slate products according to specifications and quality standards
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the yard, including storage areas and workstations
Operate basic warehouse equipment such as forklifts or pallet trucks (training provided)
Help load and unload materials, ensuring safe handling practices at all times
Follow health and safety procedures diligently during all tasks to create a safe working environment
Support team members with general tasks to keep production flowing efficiently

Skills

Basic mechanical knowledge or interest in understanding machinery and tools
Experience with hand tools such as hammers, chisels, or screwdrivers is advantageous
Familiarity with power tools like drills or saws is a plus but not required—training will be provided
Ability to perform assembly work accurately and efficiently
Previous warehouse experience is beneficial but not essential; enthusiasm to learn is key
Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and a proactive approach to teamwork
