perkd is a growing independent coffee shop in the heart of Pelsall, Walsall, serving great coffee, cakes and crumpets to a community we love. We’re energetic and committed to doing things properly, from dialing in espresso to creating small moments that make customers feel at home. We’re at an exciting stage of growth and we’re looking for someone who wants to help shape what perkd becomes. You’ll have real influence over the day‑to‑day running of the shop, supported by owners who handle background tasks like ordering stock, business admin and quality oversight. Creativity, initiative and continuous improvement are central to how we work.

The Role

This is more than a barista position, it’s an opportunity to take the reins of the shop floor and help build something special. You’ll lead the daily flow, maintain high coffee standards and contribute ideas that shape the future of perkd, from new drinks to customer experience improvements. You’ll also be part of a business that shares its success. Your ideas, leadership and effort directly contribute to the shop’s progress and you’ll share in the rewards.

Key Responsibilities

● Lead the day‑to‑day running of the shop with confidence and initiative

● Dial in espresso, maintain brew quality and care for equipment

● Serve customers with warmth and genuine hospitality

● Move smoothly between service, cleaning and operational tasks

● Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation through daily documented opening/closing duties

Who You Are

● A strong interest in coffee and a willingness to keep learning

● Energetic, upbeat and someone who sets a positive tone for the day

● Quick on your feet and steady when the rush hits

● Confident with latte art and proud of the drinks you serve

● Attentive to detail and consistent in your work

● Adaptable and comfortable juggling multiple tasks

● Reliable, proactive and confident taking the lead

● A strong team player

● Someone who genuinely cares about customer experience

● Courage to show initiative and share your ideas

Essential Requirements

● GCSE in Maths and English (or equivalent)

● Food Hygiene Level 2 or Level 3

● Willing to work weekends

● 1+ year barista experience

● Demonstrable hospitality experience

● Clear communicator who both leads and supports a team

Desirable (But Not Essential)

● Barista qualification or accredited coffee training

● Dialling in espresso throughout the day and understand how to adjust for variables

● Managerial experience / experience training or supporting junior baristas

● Confidence using POS systems and handling cash

● Stock management experience

Hours & Growth Opportunity

We’re initially looking for someone to join us for around 10 hours per week, on Saturday and Sunday. As we expand our opening hours and days, we plan to grow the team to work with you during the week. You’ll be joining at a pivotal moment, with the chance to grow with us from the ground up, take ownership of the shop floor and help shape the future of perkd. With our growth incentive , your success and the shop’s success go hand in hand.
