Field Service Engineer – Mobility & Disability Equipment

Humber Mobility Centre
Hull, East Yorkshire – Field Based / UK-Wide Travel
Permanent | Employed | Up to 42 Hours Per Week

About the Role

Humber Mobility Centre is looking for a reliable, practical and customer-focused Field Service Engineer to join our growing team.

This is a varied, hands-on role working with customers throughout the UK. You will be responsible for servicing, diagnosing and repairing mobility and disability equipment, alongside carrying out product deliveries, installations, collections, home demonstrations and customer handovers.

This role would suit somebody with a good basic mechanical and/or electrical understanding who enjoys practical problem-solving and working directly with customers.

Previous experience within the mobility industry would be beneficial, but specialist product knowledge can be developed with the right candidate.

As this is a field-based position, regular UK-wide travel is an essential part of the role and occasional overnight stays will be required.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

Servicing, diagnosing and repairing mobility and disability equipment
Completing technical inspections and safety checks
Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
Delivering and collecting equipment from customers throughout the UK
Assembling and setting up products in customers' homes
Carrying out professional home demonstrations and product handovers
Clearly explaining controls, charging procedures, operation and product care
Completing digital job records, photographs, customer signatures and reports
Assisting with warranty assessments and field warranty work
Loading and securing mobility equipment safely
Carrying out vehicle checks and maintaining a clean and professional work environment
Working closely with our office, workshop and delivery teams to complete routes efficiently

Equipment You'll Work With

The role covers a broad range of mobility and independent-living equipment, including:

Mobility scooters
Powerchairs and electric wheelchairs
Manual wheelchairs
Folding and lightweight mobility products
Walking aids
Riser-recliner chairs
Adjustable and profiling beds
Batteries and chargers
Electrical and electronic mobility systems
Other mobility and disability equipment supported by Humber Mobility Centre

What We're Looking ForEssential

Full UK driving licence with a satisfactory driving record
Good basic mechanical and/or electrical understanding
Practical approach to fault finding and problem solving
Willingness to learn and develop specialist mobility-product knowledge
Good communication and customer-service skills
Patient, polite and professional manner
Confidence demonstrating equipment within customers' homes
Comfortable working independently without direct supervision
Willingness to travel throughout the UK
Willingness to stay away overnight when operationally required
Ability to safely load, secure and handle mobility equipment
Comfortable using digital systems to complete job reports and provide photographic evidence

Experience working with batteries, charging systems, braking systems, controllers, motors or similar electrical/mechanical equipment would be particularly useful.

Experience within mobility equipment, automotive, electrical, mechanical, engineering, maintenance, servicing or a similar field would also be advantageous.

Customer Care

Our engineers represent Humber Mobility Centre directly in our customers' homes.

Many of our customers are elderly, disabled or potentially vulnerable, so we are looking for somebody who is:

Careful when working within customers' properties
Respectful of privacy and confidentiality
Able to explain technical information in a simple and reassuring way

Working Hours & Travel

The position is available for up to 42 hours per week.

Actual contracted hours and the normal working pattern will be agreed as part of the employment contract.

Because this is a field-based position, daily hours may vary depending on travel, customer appointments and the requirements of each route. Reasonable flexibility will therefore be required.

UK-wide travel forms a significant part of this role and overnight stays will be required when operationally necessary.

Authorised overnight accommodation and reasonable business and subsistence expenses will be covered by Humber Mobility Centre.
