Graduate Building Surveyor
Starting salary - £34,000, dependent on experience, plus overtime, company vehicle and fully funded railway competence development.

Eleusis Ltd is looking for an ambitious Graduate Building Surveyor to join our growing railway structures examination team.
This is a unique opportunity for someone with a building surveying or related construction degree who wants to develop a specialist career within the railway industry.
The successful candidate will initially support our experienced examiners on the examination of railway stations, operational buildings, train sheds, canopies, platforms, footbridges, bridges, retaining walls and other civil engineering assets.
You will receive structured training, practical experience and mentorship with the aim of progressing towards:
- STE05 competence for the examination of railway operational property and buildings
- STE04 competence for the examination of railway bridges and civil engineering structures
- PTS and other relevant railway safety competencies
- Further specialist competencies as your experience develops
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with visual and detailed examinations of railway buildings and structures
- Inspecting stations, roofs, canopies, platforms, buildings, footbridges, bridges and retaining walls
- Identifying, measuring, photographing and accurately recording defects
- Reviewing previous examination reports and asset information before attending site
- Preparing clear and technically accurate examination reports
- Supporting the assessment of asset condition, deterioration and maintenance requirements
- Working alongside experienced STE04 and STE05 examiners
- Developing an understanding of Network Rail examination standards and reporting requirements
- Attending railway sites throughout UK, including occasional night and weekend shifts
- Participating in technical briefings, mentoring, training and continuing professional development
- Following Eleusis Ltd health, safety, quality and competence management procedures
Person specification
We are looking for someone who has:
- A degree in Building Surveying, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline
- A genuine interest in buildings, structures, defects and asset condition
- Strong written communication and report-writing skills
- Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to inspections
- Confidence working both independently and as part of a team
- A willingness to work outdoors and in operational railway environments
- A willingness to undertake occasional night and weekend work
- The ability to travel throughout UK
- A full UK driving licence, or a clear route towards obtaining one
Previous railway experience is not essential. Full railway training and structured mentoring will be provided.
Experience with building inspections, schedules of condition, defect diagnosis, construction projects or property maintenance would be beneficial but is not required.
