About the Role

Recovery is rarely about completing one isolated treatment. It is about helping people rebuild the practical skills and confidence they need to manage everyday life as independently as possible.

As an Occupational Therapist, you will assess how illness, injury, disability, or changing circumstances affect an individual’s ability to complete daily activities. You will develop practical intervention plans, recommend equipment or adaptations, and work closely with individuals, families, carers, and other professionals to support safe and sustainable independence.

The role combines assessment, problem solving, and ongoing rehabilitation. One appointment may involve evaluating how safely someone can manage at home, while another may focus on mobility, daily routines, equipment needs, or planning the next stage of rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities

Complete occupational therapy assessments for individuals with a range of physical or functional needs.
Evaluate how health conditions affect mobility, self-care, domestic tasks, work, and everyday activities.
Develop individualised intervention and rehabilitation plans.
Set practical goals with individuals and review progress regularly.
Recommend equipment, aids, and environmental adaptations where appropriate.
Assess home environments and identify potential barriers to safe independent living.
Provide practical strategies that help individuals complete everyday tasks more independently.
Support rehabilitation following illness, injury, surgery, or changes in physical ability.
Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, nurses, social care professionals, doctors, and other specialists.
Provide guidance to family members and carers regarding safe support techniques.
Maintain accurate clinical and intervention records.
Prepare assessment reports and recommendations for relevant professionals.
Participate in multidisciplinary case reviews and care-planning meetings.
Monitor the effectiveness of prescribed equipment and adaptations.
Identify changes in an individual’s condition and adjust intervention plans where appropriate.
Support safe discharge planning from rehabilitation or care settings.
Maintain professional standards relating to confidentiality, safeguarding, and record keeping.
Contribute to service reviews and improvements in rehabilitation practices.

What We Are Looking For

Degree or recognised professional qualification in Occupational Therapy.
Current HCPC registration as an Occupational Therapist.
Ability to complete structured functional assessments and develop practical intervention plans.
Strong understanding of rehabilitation, independence, mobility, and activities of daily living.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with individuals, families, carers, and multidisciplinary professionals.
Strong clinical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Ability to maintain accurate and confidential records.
Experience working within rehabilitation, community health, adult social care, hospital services, or a related setting would be beneficial.
Knowledge of assistive equipment and environmental adaptations is advantageous.
Understanding of safeguarding and professional clinical responsibilities.
Ability to manage a varied caseload and prioritise assessments effectively.
