Plant Service Manager

Join Lynch Plant Hire as our next Service Manager

Are you an experienced Service Manager or Workshop Manager with a strong background in plant equipment? Do you enjoy leading teams, driving high standards, and ensuring equipment is maintained safely and efficiently?

We're looking for a motivated and organised Service Manager to lead our busy workshop in Hemel Hempstead. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business where you'll play a key role in maximising equipment availability, developing your team, and maintaining exceptional operational standards.

The Role

Reporting to the Depot Manager, you'll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the workshop, ensuring our varied plant fleet is maintained to the highest standards while leading a skilled team of workshop fitters.

Responsibilities: What you'll do

Lead and manage the workshop team, promoting a positive, high-performing culture.
Oversee major and minor equipment repairs to maximise fleet availability.
Carry out service red pen checks on hire equipment.
Ensure the workshop and yard remain compliant with all Health & Safety and company standards.
Manage workshop health & safety, including regular toolbox talks.
Keep statutory training records up to date.
Process workshop staff timesheets accurately and on time.
Monitor workshop performance and communicate team objectives and targets.
Analyse weekly purchase order reports to identify cost-saving opportunities and control depot spending.
Support the recruitment, onboarding and development of workshop fitters.
Drive continuous improvements in productivity, engagement and employee retention.

Qualifications & Experience:

NVQ Level 3 in Plant Maintenance (or equivalent).
Previous experience managing a workshop or service department.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
Experience within the plant hire, construction equipment, agricultural machinery, HGV or commercial vehicle sectors is highly desirable.
