As part of the University's Technical Directorate, you'll join a collaborative community of technical professionals who play a vital role in supporting teaching, research, creative practice and public engagement. Working alongside academic colleagues, you'll help create an inspiring environment where students can develop the practical skills and confidence needed for successful careers in the creative industries.
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Technician to support teaching, learning and performance activities across Music and Performing Arts.
This is an exciting and varied role. You will work closely with academic colleagues and students to ensure our specialist facilities, equipment and performance spaces are maintained to a professional standard and ready to support a wide range of creative activity.
Your responsibilities will include:

Supporting students during rehearsals, recording sessions, performances and practical classes.
- Maintaining professional recording studios, rehearsal spaces and performance venues.
- Managing, maintaining and preparing specialist audio, music and performance equipment as part of the wider technical team and equipment store.
- Providing technical advice and demonstrations to students and staff on specialist equipment and software through one-to-one support and workshops.
- Assisting with live events, performances, productions and University activities, including occasional evening and weekend working.
- Maintaining equipment inventories, arranging repairs, ordering consumables and ensuring equipment is available when required.
- Promoting safe working practices by implementing Health and Safety procedures and preparing and reviewing risk assessments.
The post sits within the University's Technical Directorate and reports to the Senior Specialist Technician. You will become part of a multidisciplinary team of technical professionals, with opportunities to collaborate across Creative Arts and with colleagues from other disciplines on major projects, productions and University-wide events.
Who are we looking for?
You will have practical experience within the music, performing arts or live events sector and be passionate about supporting the next generation of creative professionals.
You should have experience working with a range of technical equipment and software, including many of the following:

Digital and analogue audio mixing desks.
- Professional recording studio environments.
- Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs).
- Live sound and performance systems.
- Musical instrument setup and maintenance, including restringing instruments and replacing drum heads.
Experience of theatre environments, stage lighting, or live venue operations would be advantageous, as would previous experience working within education. However, we are committed to developing our technical staff and will provide training to broaden your expertise, particularly in supporting activities within our Anselm Studios and wider Creative Arts facilities.
The role involves manual handling and occasional working at height. Relevant qualifications or experience are desirable, although training will be provided where required.
Most importantly, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive and enjoys working collaboratively. You will have excellent communication skills, be confident supporting both students and staff, and be committed to delivering an outstanding technical service. You'll take pride in maintaining high professional standards, solving technical challenges and continually developing your own knowledge and skills.
