Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant/Commis Chef to join our culinary team. This role involves supporting the kitchen operations by assisting with food preparation, cooking, and maintaining high standards of food safety. The ideal candidate will have a passion for cooking, a keen eye for detail, and a desire to develop their culinary skills in a professional environment. This position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain practical experience within a busy restaurant and hotel setting.

Responsibilities

Assist in preparing ingredients and components for various dishes, ensuring all food items are ready for service
Support the head chef in cooking and plating dishes according to established recipes and presentation standards
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including washing utensils, equipment, and work surfaces
Follow food safety and hygiene regulations at all times to ensure compliance with health standards
Help with stock rotation, inventory checks, and storing ingredients appropriately
Support the team during service hours by serving food when required and attending to customer needs as directed
Assist in setting up workstations before shifts and cleaning down after service

Skills

Experience in food preparation and cooking within a professional kitchen environment is desirable
Knowledge of food safety standards and hygiene practices
Previous restaurant, catering and/or Hotel experience is essential; a keen willingness to learn is important
Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced environment
Good organisational skills with attention to detail in meal preparation and presentation
Strong teamwork and communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities during busy service periods
