Health & Safety Trainer
Salary starting at £35,000, DOE
What do you want from work?
You’ve spent years building knowledge and experience in construction and health & safety. Now you have the opportunity to pass that knowledge on.
As a Health & Safety Trainer, you'll help people become more competent, more confident and safer at work; contributing to workplaces where people can do their jobs effectively and return home safely.
As a Health & Safety Trainer with Greenlight Safety and Training, you will take the knowledge and experience you've built throughout your career and pass it on to the people who need it.
Whether you're delivering construction safety training, practical work activity courses or accredited qualifications, what you teach has a purpose.
The person sitting in your course may go back to a construction site, a workshop or a workplace and put what you've taught them into practice.
That means your work can make a genuine difference.
You will be helping people understand the risks they face, work more safely, develop their competence and ultimately contribute to better workplaces across the South West.
And as Greenlight Safety and Training continues to grow, there is the opportunity to develop your own skills, expand the courses you deliver and become involved in other areas of the business.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Health & Safety Trainer to join our growing team.
You will primarily deliver construction safety and work activity related training from our training centre in Plymouth and at customer venues across the South West.
The role will cover a range of accredited and in-house courses, with opportunities to develop your portfolio as your experience and qualifications allow.
You may already be an experienced trainer, or you may have spent years working within the construction industry and have developed a strong understanding of health and safety at management level.
Either way, we are looking for someone who can take their knowledge and communicate it effectively to others.
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering training courses at our Plymouth training centre and occasionally at customer venues
- Delivering and developing accredited and in-house Health & Safety training
- Delivering courses including CITB, IOSH, UKATA, ProQual and Highfield, subject to your qualifications and registration
- Developing and delivering practical training such as disc cutter and banksman courses
- Preparing training materials and presentations
- Completing and marking assessments accurately
- Maintaining awarding body requirements and supporting annual audits
- Supporting the development of new training courses and delivery materials
- Becoming part of the IQA team, helping to monitor existing trainers and assessors and support the development of new ones
- Supporting other areas of the business where required, including consultancy and site inspections
Although training will be the primary focus of the role, you will have the opportunity to broaden your experience and become involved in the wider Health & Safety Consultancy business.
Your Experience Matters
We are looking for someone who understands construction and understands the realities of keeping people safe at work.
You will ideally have:
- NEBOSH Construction or equivalent as a minimum
- A Level 3 Education and Training Award, teaching qualification or equivalent
- Verifiable construction experience at management level
- Proven experience delivering Health & Safety training
- A full UK Driving Licence
- Strong IT skills, particularly Microsoft Word and PowerPoint
We would particularly welcome applicants who already hold registrations or additional qualifications such as:
- CITB Registered Trainer
- UKATA Registered Trainer
- First Aid Trainer
- Mental Health First Aid Trainer
- Assessor qualification
- Internal Quality Assurance or Internal Auditor qualification
Don't necessarily have every one of these?
That doesn't automatically rule you out.
Depending on your experience and existing qualifications, there may be opportunities to obtain additional registrations and develop your training portfolio with us.
More Than Just Training
At Greenlight Safety and Training, we don't see training as simply standing at the front of a room and delivering a presentation.
Good training changes behaviour.
It helps people recognise hazards before they become incidents. It gives workers the confidence and competence to carry out tasks properly. It helps businesses operate more safely and effectively.
You will be expected to bring your own industry experience into the classroom and make training practical, relevant and engaging.
You'll be working with businesses across the South West, meaning no two days necessarily need to look the same.
One day you could be delivering an accredited construction course at our centre. Another could see you delivering practical training at a customer's premises. You may also have the opportunity to support consultancy work, site inspections, course development or IQA activity.
You won't just deliver training. You'll help shape it.

- Work with a wide range of businesses and industries
- Deliver both accredited and practical training
- Become involved in consultancy and site inspection work
- Develop your skills as a trainer and potentially as an IQA
- Contribute to the development of new courses and services
- Work as part of a supportive and developing team
- Build a long-term career within Health & Safety training and consultancy
Most importantly, you will be able to look at the people you train and know that the knowledge you've passed on could make a real difference when they return to work.
Safer people create safer workplaces.
If you have the experience, knowledge and passion to pass that knowledge on, we'd like to hear from you.
