ABOUT THE ROLE
CJ Decorators Ltd is looking for an experienced Painting & Decorating Foreman to take day-to-day on site responsibility for the delivery of commercial decorating packages across London.
We need someone who understands the decorating trade properly, can lead teams effectively and can maintain programme, quality and site standards without requiring constant direction.
This is not simply a position for passing messages between site management and the workforce. The successful candidate will be expected to plan ahead, identify problems early, manage labour productively and provide our Contracts Managers with an accurate picture of progress on site.

CJ Decorators Ltd is an established commercial painting and decorating contractor delivering major fit-out, refurbishment and new-build projects for leading main contractors.
Our work includes high-spec commercial offices, hotels, hospitality environments and other large-scale construction projects throughout London and the South East.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Take day-to-day responsibility for the painting and decorating package on assigned projects.
- Lead, organise and supervise teams of painters and decorators.
- Plan work areas, labour allocation and sequencing in line with the construction programme.
- Ensure operatives understand the required specification, approved finishes and quality standards.
- Read and work from drawings, specifications, finish schedules and programme information.
- Inspect work areas before decorations commence, raising access, substrate or readiness issues promptly.
- Monitor workmanship and resolve quality issues before areas are offered for inspection.
- Manage snagging and ensure defects are closed out efficiently.
- Monitor labour attendance, productivity and progress against programme.
- Provide clear daily updates, photographs and records to the Contracts Manager.
- Forecast and request materials in sufficient time to avoid disruption while controlling waste.
- Liaise professionally with the main contractor’s site team, other trades and CJ Decorators’ management.
- Identify, photograph and report variations, delays, damage by others and additional works before they become commercially difficult to recover.
- Deliver site briefings, toolbox talks and relevant health and safety information.
- Ensure compliance with RAMS, PPE requirements, site rules and safe working practices.
- Maintain good housekeeping and protect completed work.
- Assist practically on the tools where required by the needs of the project.
ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- Proven experience supervising painting and decorating works on commercial construction projects.
- Strong practical background as an experienced painter and decorator.
- Experience leading teams and allocating labour effectively.
- Excellent understanding of preparation, application methods and commercial-quality finishes.
- Ability to read drawings, specifications and finish schedules.
- Valid CSCS card.
- Good understanding of construction-site health and safety.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Comfortable using a smartphone for photographs, site records and daily reporting.
- Able to travel reliably to projects across London.
- Valid UTR and eligibility to work under CIS.
- Right to work in the UK.
- Checkable references from previous commercial decorating employers or contractors.
DESIRABLE
- SSSTS or equivalent supervisory qualification.
- First Aid at Work.
- IPAF and/or PASMA.
- Experience working for major commercial painting and decorating subcontractors.

RATE AND OPPORTUNITY
The rate is £175–£200 per day, depending on relevant experience, qualifications and demonstrated ability to manage commercial decorating works.
This is an ongoing opportunity within an established contractor with a strong pipeline of commercial projects. Foremen who perform well will be considered for increasingly significant projects and greater responsibility.
