The Opportunity
This is an exceptional opportunity for an ambitious and commercially aware Superintendent Pharmacist to join Newton Pharmacy.
As the responsible professional leader for the pharmacy, you will play a critical role in shaping the future direction of the business, ensuring robust governance and regulatory compliance while driving operational excellence, service innovation, and sustainable growth.
Working closely with the Directors and senior leadership team, you will influence strategy, develop new services, optimise operational performance, and help establish Newton Pharmacy as a market-leading digital pharmacy provider.
Purpose of the Role
To act as Superintendent Pharmacist for Newton Pharmacy, providing strategic and professional leadership across all pharmacy activities and ensuring compliance with regulatory, legal, and professional standards.
The role is responsible for maintaining a safe, effective, and patient-focused pharmacy operation while supporting the continued expansion of digital pharmacy services, NHS contracts, private healthcare offerings, and innovative patient care pathways.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the Superintendent Pharmacist and regular Responsible Pharmacist for Newton Pharmacy.
- Maintain full compliance with GPhC standards, NHS contractual obligations, and all relevant legislation.
- Lead the pharmacy’s governance framework, including SOP management, audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and quality assurance processes.
- Ensure the pharmacy remains inspection-ready and operates to the highest professional standards.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and professional support to pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, dispensers, and support staff.
- Foster a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, patient safety, and clinical excellence.
- Serve as the primary professional point of contact with regulators and external stakeholders.
Pharmacy Operations and Service Delivery
- Provide strategic oversight of all pharmacy operations, ensuring safe, efficient, and scalable service delivery.
- Ensure the accurate and timely dispensing of NHS and private prescriptions through highly automated workflows and robotic dispensing technology.
- Oversee procurement, stock management, controlled drug governance, and supply chain resilience.
- Ensure consistently high levels of patient satisfaction and service quality.
Clinical Services and Prescribing Support
- Support the development and expansion of NHS and private clinical services.
- Ensure safe prescribing pathways, medicines optimisation, and robust clinical governance processes.
- Collaborate closely with prescribers, GPs, nurses, pharmacists, and wider healthcare professionals.
- Lead the development of clinical protocols, prescribing frameworks, and patient monitoring procedures.
- Support the growth of Pharmacy First, independent prescribing services, and future commissioned services.
Service Development and Innovation
- Identify and evaluate opportunities for service expansion and business growth.
- Lead the safe implementation of new pharmacy services, digital healthcare solutions, and patient care pathways.
- Champion innovation while ensuring compliance, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to business planning, strategic projects, and organisational development initiatives.
- Support the integration of emerging technologies and automation to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes.
Stakeholder and Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Directors and senior leaders to align pharmacy operations with business objectives.
- Collaborate with operational, clinical, technology, customer service, and commercial teams to deliver exceptional patient experiences.
- Support the design and optimisation of patient journeys and digital healthcare pathways.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with NHS bodies, healthcare providers, suppliers, and regulatory organisations.
- Represent Newton Pharmacy professionally within the wider healthcare sector.
Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will be passionate about improving patient outcomes through innovation, technology, and service excellence, while maintaining an unwavering commitment to patient safety and professional standards.
Essential Criteria
- UK-qualified pharmacist with current GPhC registration.
- Eligible and suitable to act as Superintendent Pharmacist.
- Extensive knowledge of pharmacy legislation, governance, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining SOPs, quality management systems, risk assessments, and audit programmes.
- Strong leadership, people management, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and decision-making abilities.
- Demonstrable commitment to patient safety and clinical governance.
- Ability to lead change and drive continuous improvement within a fast-paced environment.
- Commercial awareness coupled with a patient-first approach.
- Registered as an Independent Prescriber or be willing to be enrolled on the course.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience as a Superintendent Pharmacist.
- Experience within a distance-selling, online, automated, or digitally enabled pharmacy environment.
- Experience working with robotic dispensing systems and pharmacy automation technologies.
- Knowledge of NHS pharmacy contracts, services, and commissioning frameworks.
- Experience supporting prescribing services and multidisciplinary clinical teams.
- Experience launching or developing new pharmacy or healthcare services.
- Strong understanding of digital transformation and technology-enabled healthcare delivery.
Salary dependent upon experience
