Full job description

Overview

A specialist SEND provision in Leeds is recruiting a Therapeutic Learning Mentor to join their multidisciplinary team from September. The school supports pupils with a range of additional needs, including social, emotional and mental health needs, autism, attachment difficulties, trauma-related needs, emotional regulation challenges and complex learning needs.

Working closely with educational staff, pastoral teams and therapeutic professionals, the successful candidate will play a key role in helping pupils overcome barriers to learning, develop emotional resilience and build the confidence required to achieve positive educational outcomes.

This is a full-time opportunity that has the potential to become a permanent role.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide therapeutic and emotional support to pupils with a range of SEND and SEMH needs.
Deliver targeted interventions and mentoring sessions under the guidance of educational and therapeutic professionals.
Support pupils to develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive coping strategies.
Build positive and trusting relationships that promote engagement, wellbeing and personal growth.
Implement individual support plans, behaviour strategies and EHCP outcomes throughout the school day.
Facilitate opportunities for personal development during lessons, interventions and social situations.
Use restorative approaches, therapeutic techniques and positive reinforcement where appropriate.
Support pupils to manage transitions, overcome barriers to learning and engage positively in education.
Monitor, record and evaluate progress against individual targets and wellbeing outcomes.
Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, parents and carers to ensure consistency across settings.

Pre-requisites:

Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, SEND or additional needs.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice, emotional wellbeing and positive behaviour support.
Knowledge of attachment needs, emotional regulation strategies and therapeutic approaches desirable.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Patient, empathetic and highly organised approach.
Experience within education, youth work, care, mentoring or SEND settings beneficial.
Relevant qualifications in Education, Psychology, Counselling, Youth Work, Health and Social Care or equivalent experience desirable.

Pay: £98.50-£125.00 per day
