Part-Time Studio Supervisor – Creative Studio & Café
Happy Glaze Pottery, Tiverton
12 contracted hours per week | Typically around 16 hours | Permanent, Part-Time | Start ASAP
Happy Glaze Pottery is a busy pottery painting studio, café and licensed bar in the centre of Tiverton. We’re looking for a friendly, reliable and confident Part-Time Studio Supervisor to join our small team.
Our absolute main focus is making sure our customers have a brilliant experience with us. We’re a small, friendly team, so finding the right person to fit into the team is just as important to us, if not more important, than having experience in every part of the role.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining customer service, hospitality, creativity and responsibility for the day-to-day running of the studio.
The role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing friendly, welcoming and attentive customer service
- Supervising the studio and taking responsibility for shifts when required
- Key holder responsibilities, including opening and closing
- Making barista-style coffees and other drinks
- Serving cocktails and drinks from our licensed bar
- Helping customers with pottery painting and creative activities
- Working with children, babies, families, parties and adult groups
- Supporting and potentially leading workshops and events
- Glazing, kiln work and processing finished pottery
- Using our till and booking systems
- Cleaning, restocking and keeping the studio looking its best
- Supporting the wider team and helping with the general day-to-day running of the business
Full training will be provided, including our pottery processes, glazing, kiln work and studio systems.
Hours
This position offers 12 contracted hours per week, with hours typically around 16 hours per week. There are opportunities for additional hours during school holidays, events, busy periods and staff holiday cover.
Our opening days are currently Wednesday to Sunday, including evenings, and shifts can fall between approximately 9am and 10pm.
Shift lengths and days will vary, so applicants must be able to work a variety of weekdays, weekends and evenings. Flexibility is important for this role, with rotas provided in advance.
Applicants must be aged 18 or over due to the responsibilities involved in the role, including working within our licensed bar.
Pay & benefits
- Starting hourly rate meets the applicable National Minimum/National Living Wage
- Higher Supervisor rate when responsible for running a shift
- Opportunities for additional hours during peak periods, holidays and events
- Staff discount
- Staff reward and recognition scheme
- Full training provided
- Opportunities to get involved in workshops, events and the creative side of the business
Who we're looking for
We’d love to hear from someone who is:
- Genuinely friendly, warm and great with people
- Passionate about giving customers a brilliant experience
- Reliable, responsible and comfortable taking initiative
- Confident enough to take responsibility for a shift when required
- Calm and organised in a busy customer-facing environment
- Happy working with children and babies as well as adults
- Willing to get stuck into all aspects of the role, including cleaning
- Flexible with their availability
- Creative, enthusiastic and keen to contribute ideas
- Someone who will enjoy being part of a small, friendly team
Previous barista experience would be a big advantage, and experience making cocktails or working within hospitality would also be great.
Previous supervisory or key holder experience would be beneficial, but we’re also interested in applicants who are ready to take that next step and have the right attitude and confidence for the role.
You do not need previous pottery or ceramics experience. We can teach you that!
There will also be opportunities for the right person to become more involved creatively, including helping with workshops and events, developing new ideas and potentially leading sessions of their own.
A full UK driving licence is preferred, as there may occasionally be opportunities to support mobile pottery painting sessions, pop-ups and off-site events.
Safeguarding
We regularly welcome children and families into the studio and run children’s workshops, parties and activities. The successful applicant will therefore be required to undergo an appropriate DBS check.
How to apply
Please apply through Indeed with your CV and a cover letter.
Your cover letter doesn’t need to be overly formal. We’d love to hear a little about you, why you think you’d be a good fit for Happy Glaze and our team, any relevant experience you have and your general availability, particularly for evenings and weekends.
Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.
All applications and recruitment enquiries must be made through Indeed only. To help our team keep our customer-facing channels available for customers, please don’t visit the studio to apply or send recruitment enquiries through our email, social media or website chat.
You don’t need to tick every single box. Full training will be provided, and finding someone with the right attitude, who genuinely cares about our customers and fits well into our small team, is incredibly important to us.
We’re looking for someone to start as soon as possible, so applications may be reviewed and interviews arranged as they are received.
