Join our team as an Infrastructure Manager and play a key role in delivering the secure, resilient digital foundations that support clinical and corporate services across the Trust. You’ll lead a skilled infrastructure team while driving the performance, reliability and evolution of our on‑premise and cloud platforms in a fast‑paced, mission‑driven environment.

Lead and manage enterprise infrastructure services, ensuring high availability, security and performance

Act as senior escalation point for complex technical incidents and root cause analysis

Drive hybrid cloud delivery across on‑premise and Azure environments

Develop and lead a high-performing team , supporting service improvement and major projects

The Infrastructure Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day operation, support and continuous improvement of the Trust’s enterprise infrastructure, ensuring high levels of availability, resilience and security across on‑premise and cloud platforms. The role provides senior technical leadership, acting as the escalation point for complex infrastructure incidents, overseeing root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions to prevent recurrence. The post holder will manage and develop the Infrastructure Team, drive proactive monitoring, maintenance and lifecycle management, and lead the delivery of infrastructure projects aligned to strategic priorities. In addition, they will ensure robust governance around change, security and compliance, supporting a stable and future-ready digital environment that underpins safe and effective patient care.

As one of Europe’s biggest and busiest children’s hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions. In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales and the Isle of Man. We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs in our recently relocated and newly opened state of the art facility.

Lead, supervise and support the Infrastructure Team on a day-to-day basis, ensuring effective workload management, staff development, mentoring and delivery of a high-quality service.
Lead the management and resolution of complex 3rd‑line incidents escalated from Desktop and Support teams.
Act as the technical authority for VMware ESXi, Windows Server and virtual infrastructure.
Manage, monitor and support the Trusts Azure environment
Build, configure, optimise and maintain Windows-based virtual servers, ensuring best practice standards.
Lead in maintaining the Trust’s core infrastructure including Active Directory, Intune, Group Policy, DNS/DHCP, and identity management.
Analyse and interpret advanced system logs, performance data and diagnostic outputs to identify root causes and implement resilient fixes.
Oversee patching, security hardening, firmware upgrades and system lifecycle management.
Ensure robust monitoring of infrastructure through PRTG monitoring tools and act proactively on alerts.
Maintain storage and backup technologies, ensuring DR readiness and backup integrity.
Support Trust-wide projects requiring advanced infrastructure expertise.
Manage and resolve primarily 3rd line incidents assigned to the Technical Services team by Digital Service managers or escalation process from Desktop Support team. These incidents are by definition highly complex and require specialist knowledge. This may require prolonged analysis and interpretation of highly complex system files and/or statistical reports, to determine the root cause and provide adequate steps to resolve the incident and identify options to prevent similar incidents.
Interpret and analyse complex technical/audit data to produce reports/summaries for the Head of Operational IT and Chief Technology Officer.
Create, maintain and verify technical procedures for use by members of the Desktop Support team and wider Digital Services staff.
Participate in an out of hours on-call rota, working autonomously to resolve IT incidents critical to ensure the smooth running of business requirements. This may include, but is not limited to, patient areas such as wards, labs, theatres and ED.
Assume a technical lead role on short/long term trust wide projects. This involves communicating specialist knowledge and providing technical advice to 3rd parties and other departments. Also assisting with the development of a technical strategy and solution in conjunction with other team members as the project develops.
Raise and submit RFCs in accordance with the change management process for all minor/major changes to the trust IT systems. Also represent these changes at the Change Advisory Board (CAB) and provide specialist advice on other changes to the members of the CAB.
Monitor cloud performance, cost, utilisation and security posture.
Support identity integration across hybrid environments, including Azure AD, AAD Connect, Conditional Access, MFA and RBAC.
