Apprentice Chef / Trainee Chef (Full Training Provided)

Location: The Cornish Arms, Tavistock
Job Type: Full-time, Permanent Apprenticeship
Pay: £8.50–£9.50 per hour (depending on age, experience and whether enrolled on an apprenticeship) + share of monthly tips.

The Cornish Arms is an award-winning gastropub with a reputation for exceptional food, warm hospitality and developing talented chefs. As part of The Cornish Arms Group, we’re passionate about investing in people and helping them build long-term careers in hospitality.

We’re looking for an enthusiastic Apprentice Chef or Trainee Chef to join our kitchen team. Whether you’re leaving school, changing careers or simply have a passion for cooking, this is an opportunity to learn from experienced chefs in a busy, fresh-food kitchen.

No previous kitchen experience is required—just a positive attitude, a willingness to learn and a strong work ethic.

The Role ~

As an Apprentice Chef, you’ll learn every aspect of working in a professional kitchen while developing the skills needed for a successful career as a chef.

Your responsibilities will include ~

Assisting with the preparation and cooking of fresh, seasonal food
Learning professional knife skills and cooking techniques
Preparing ingredients to specification
Supporting the team during busy service periods
Maintaining excellent food hygiene and cleanliness standards
Learning stock rotation, food safety and kitchen organisation
Working towards a recognised hospitality qualification (where applicable)
