Our Deputy List Officers play a critical role in helping deliver justice, this role will enable you to demonstrate and develop your leadership skills. You are responsible for making sure your team deliver excellent administrative support and customer service to service users, judiciary and management.

HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS) is responsible for the administration of criminal, civil and family Courts and Tribunals in England and Wales. Our roles support our service users and colleagues within HMCTS, where people and businesses access potentially life-changing justice. Key Purpose

To support the scheduling and listing of hearings in liaison with the Resident Judge, judiciary, Listing Officer and Case Progression Officer, to ensure efficient use of courtrooms and court staff and to ensure that all ancillary duties are carried out effectively.

Please note, whilst the post holder will be allocated to a specific office base, there may be a need for flexibility to work at other local HMCTS sites or courts subject to business needs.

Be responsible for the efficient use of courtrooms and court staff through the effective listing and control of court business.
To assist in the delivery of performance against targets.
Make practical use of Lean TIBs, SOPs and other continuous improvement tools.

Your skills and experience

To be successful in this role you should have the following:

Experience of working in an administrative role in a customer focussed environment.
Proficient IT and Microsoft Software packages skills.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Further details

New recruits to the Civil Service joining MoJ are expected to join at the band minimum.

These operational roles are customer facing, requiring successful applicants to be office based to provide HMCTS services to the public.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week. HMCTS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, where they meet the demands of the role and business needs and are agreed prior to appointment. All applications for part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns will be considered in accordance with the MoJs Flexible Working policy.

Skilled Worker Visa

This role is not eligible for new Skilled Worker visas in accordance with the current immigration rules.

From 22 July 2025, the Government introduced changes to the Skilled Worker visa route. The department cannot consider sponsoring you for this role unless you have held a Skilled Worker visa prior to the 22 July 2025 changes. If you have held a Skilled Worker visa continuously, please raise this during your vetting checks and eligibility will be assessed in accordance with the immigration rules and transitional provisions in place.

Occasional travel to other courts

For this post, occasional travel to other London Crown Courts will be required for cover when needed.
