Full job description

Hours - 24 or 30 hours available. please state in your further information section what you are applying for.

You will provide a high quality pro-active academic learning support service to learners who have severe learning difficulties and/or complex needs. Ensuring that all learners receiving support have the opportunity to achieve as well as their peers and are able to stay as independent as possible. Providing support to students to develop their skills to help them transition smoothly into adulthood and empower them to achieve their learning, employment and independence goals.

Provide high quality in class or small group support to learners identified with additional learning needs, under the guidance of the class teacher, in all learning environments across both college sites
Plan, implement and measure the impact of the support work carried out in the classroom in order to evaluate its effectiveness and work towards continual improvement of the service
Attend to personal care needs as required, such by assistance with hoisting, toileting and feeding and pushing wheelchairs around both college sites and for short specified distances during off site visits
Enable the learner voice and the views of staff to be heard in the development and delivery of the learning support function
Take on the management of small projects, as directed by the Learning Manager, in order to broaden personal experience
Develop an understanding of barriers to learning and the wide range of ways to overcome these; to also develop a comprehensive knowledge of learning difficulties and disabilities and the strategies to alleviate these

Maths and English to at least level 2
Understanding of factors that create barriers to learning and strategies to overcome these
Knowledge of quality improvement systems and tools to support these
Knowledge and/or experience of disabilities and learning difficulties and strategies to support these
If working with identified learners with mobility difficulties, an ability to push wheelchairs short distances on both college sites and during off-site visits
