Crematorium Technician Bereavement Services
Scale 5 (£28,598 - £31,022)
37 hours, Full-Time (9am 5pm, evening work and Saturday mornings required)
Permanent
Based at Stockport Crematorium, but maybe required to support colleagues across the bereavement service within the borough

Your Role

To carry out cremations and associated duties in accordance with the Cremation Act and the Guiding Principles of the Institute of Cemetery and Crematorium Management, including any future amendments. Provide cover for other Bereavement Services employees to allow for flexibility of working.

Provide chapel attendant cover in either service chapel as required. Liaise with
Officiants, organists, public and funeral directors, receive funerals, check coffin identification, resolve minor issues in a professional and respectful manner; ensure serious issues are brought to the attention of the management team immediately; control of service light system; accurate playing of music and audio systems; supervision of flower display area; closing of curtains, if necessary; tidying and preparing chapel for next funeral; liaising with the music system provider support team.

Provide assistance to the cemetery teams. Duties may include; planting; minor landscaping/ infrastructure works; weeding; garden and grounds maintenance; salting and snow clearance; leaf clearance, control of litter in grounds, headstone inspection and burial aid.

About You

We're looking for a compassionate and reliable Crematorium Technician to join our Bereavement Services team. You will have excellent interpersonal skills, be respectful and approachable when supporting bereaved families, and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. You should be computer literate, have experience working with the public, and ideally possess knowledge of grounds maintenance, administration, and crematorium operations. A keen eye for detail, flexibility, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to maintaining high standards are essential. Previous crematorium experience, maintenance skills, and a Cremation Technicians Certificate of Competence are desirable. The role requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends and other duties on a rota basis as required.
