Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO)

Kingsley Academy – OFSTED Registered School

Salary: £45,000 - £55,000 per annum (dependent on experience)

Job Type: Full-time, Permanent

Location: Wolverhampton

About Us

Kingsley Academy is an independent specialist school providing high-quality education and support for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH), and anxiety-related barriers to learning.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate and highly motivated SENCO to join our leadership team and play a key role in ensuring every pupil receives the support, provision and opportunities they need to thrive.

The Role

As SENCO, you will lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school along with the Headteacher, ensuring that pupils' individual needs are effectively identified, assessed and supported. You will work closely with the Senior Leadership Team, teaching staff, families, local authorities and external professionals to ensure the highest standards of educational and pastoral support.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee the implementation, monitoring and review of EHCP outcomes.
Coordinate and lead Annual Reviews and multi-agency meetings.
Support teaching staff in delivering high-quality SEND provision.
Develop and implement effective intervention strategies.
Monitor pupil progress and evaluate the impact of support programmes.
Provide guidance and training to staff on SEND best practice.
Work collaboratively with parents, carers, local authorities and external agencies.
Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation.
Contribute to school improvement planning and quality assurance processes.
Support the development of inclusive teaching and learning across the school.
Maintain accurate records and reports relating to SEND provision.

Essential Requirements

Experience working with children and young people with SEND.
Strong understanding of Autism, ADHD, SEMH and associated learning needs.
Experience managing EHCPs and Annual Reviews.
Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families and professionals.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable Requirements

National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to work towards it.
Experience within a specialist or independent SEND setting.
Experience of working with pupils presenting challenging behaviour and emotionally based school avoidance.
Leadership or management experience within an educational setting.
