Job Introduction

Portsmouth Youth Justice Service is looking for a committed and proactive Community Engagement Coordinator to help create positive opportunities for children and young people across the city.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in preventing offending and reoffending by connecting young people with community-based activities, volunteering opportunities, and supportive local organisations.

The Role

As Community Engagement Coordinator, you will develop and manage volunteering opportunities, build strong partnerships with local organisations, and coordinate activities that support young people's development and rehabilitation.

Key responsibilities include:

Recruiting, coordinating, training and supporting volunteers.
Promoting volunteering opportunities through community events, presentations, recruitment fairs, social media and other engagement channels.
Coordinating Referral Order Panels and volunteer-led activities.
Developing partnerships with community, voluntary, sports, arts and training organisations.
Identifying and creating opportunities for young people to participate in positive community activities.
Supervising reparation and unpaid work projects for children and young people.
Conducting health and safety assessments and ensuring safe working practices.
Maintaining accurate records and contributing to service performance monitoring.

The ideal candidate

We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting children and young people. Skilled at building relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.

An excellent communicator with strong interpersonal skills. Organised, self-motivated and capable of managing competing priorities. Able to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Creative in identifying solutions and opportunities for young people and committed to equality, diversity and inclusion.

Knowledge or experience of working with vulnerable children, young people, volunteers, community organisations or the youth justice sector would be advantageous.
