Senior Residential Support Worker

Storyy Group, Residential Care

Location: Bracknell, Berkshire
Salary: £31,000 per annum, plus £50 per sleep-in (£2,600–£5,200 additional earnings per year based on 1–2 sleep-ins per week)
Hours: Full-time | 40 hours per week | Shift pattern including sleep-ins

You’ll help create a home where children feel safe, valued and able to recover from difficult experiences, while leading by example and supporting the wider team to deliver exceptional care.

The Role

Being a Senior Residential Support Worker is about much more than supervising shifts.

You’ll be someone children trust, someone your colleagues look to for guidance, and someone who helps create a home where young people can feel safe enough to grow.

You’ll use therapeutic parenting approaches to support children aged 8–18 who have experienced trauma, abuse and disrupted attachments. Every day is different, but every day is centred around providing stability, building relationships and helping young people move towards brighter futures.

Alongside supporting children directly, you’ll mentor Residential Support Workers, contribute to care planning, work closely with external professionals and help maintain the high standards expected within a regulated children’s home.

What you’ll actually do

Build trusted relationships

Develop positive, consistent relationships with children and young people.
Support children to express their views, wishes and feelings.
Help children maintain positive relationships with family and other important people in their lives where appropriate.
Provide high-quality key work sessions that support individual care plans.
Encourage confidence, independence and emotional resilience.

Create a safe, nurturing home

Create a warm, caring and therapeutic home environment.
Support children with everyday routines, personal care where appropriate, education, hobbies and community activities.
Promote healthy lifestyles, wellbeing and positive experiences.
Ensure the home remains welcoming, safe, clean and well maintained.

Safeguard children

Keep children’s safety and wellbeing at the centre of everything you do.
Recognise, record and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns.
Follow risk assessments, behaviour support plans and children’s care plans.
Use therapeutic approaches, including PACE, to support emotional regulation.
Use de-escalation techniques wherever possible and only use physical intervention as a last resort in line with policy.

Lead by example

Provide guidance, coaching and day-to-day support to Residential Support Workers.
Deliver supervision for colleagues where appropriate.
Help maintain consistent standards across the home.
Support the management team with on-call duties when required.
Be a positive role model for both colleagues and young people.

Work with professionals

Build positive relationships with schools, social workers, health professionals, families, local authorities and other agencies.
Attend meetings, reviews and professional discussions.
Contribute to placement planning, reports, reviews and risk assessments.
Maintain accurate records that meet regulatory requirements.

Help the home run well

Follow Children’s Homes Regulations, safeguarding procedures and organisational policies.
Complete training and professional development.
Manage delegated finances responsibly.
Support health and safety throughout the home.
Work flexibly, including evenings, weekends, bank holidays and sleep-in shifts.

The kind of person we’re looking for

Essential

Experience working with children or young people in a residential setting.
Level 4 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to achieve within required timescales).
Strong understanding of safeguarding responsibilities.
Good written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build trusting relationships whilst maintaining professional boundaries.
Calm, resilient and emotionally regulated under pressure.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Full UK driving licence.
Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable

Experience using therapeutic parenting approaches, including PACE.
Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations and Quality Standards.
Experience supervising or mentoring colleagues.
Experience contributing to care planning and multi-agency working.

Pay and hours

Salary starting from £31,000 per year
Additional £50 per sleep-in (£2,600–£5,200 per year based on 1–2 sleep-ins each week)

Reporting to the Registered Home Manager
