SAFEGUARDING:

Safeguarding and Child and Adult Protection are key priorities for the Council. We aim to support children and adults at risk to be as safe as they can and to fulfil their potential. All Council employees and volunteers are responsible for playing their part in the well-being, safety and protection of children and adults at risk. All employees and volunteers will be trained to the appropriate level of safeguarding and have a duty to fulfil their personal responsibilities for safeguarding.

PURPOSE OF POST: An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of Newport MyST, a multidisciplinary service, providing therapeutic intervention and support to children/young people, their carers and families by directly delivering interventions.

MyST is a child and adolescent mental health service commissioned by the Gwent Partnership Board and funded by Social Care, Health and Education. The service works with children looked after with complex mental health needs who would otherwise be cared for in residential children’s homes, secure units or mental health inpatient units. Young people are placed in their communities, either with MyST therapeutic Foster Carers, Local Authority Foster Carers, Independent Agency Foster Carers or placement with Parents or other family members. Our clinical practice is led by our Clinical Psychologist (employed by ABUHB) and we use a wide range of evidence based psychological approaches.

The role of the Lead Therapeutic Practitioner is to provide a high level of professional therapeutic practice using appropriate interventions that are outcome focused and evidence based. This will be achieved through undertaking complex assessments and formulations and recommending appropriate interventions, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with systems/wider partners and participating in an On Call rota to provide therapeutic support and intervention outside office hours to ensure outcome focused achievements for children, young people and their families. The role will also include working with the Local Authority’s in house residential provisions to develop an integrated approach to supporting children and young people with complex mental health needs.

You will be part of a highly supportive and challenging team who will provide:

Regular supervision (managerial and clinical), annual appraisal and opportunities for reflective practice

Evidenced based decision making and safeguarding

A supportive and experienced leadership team and colleagues

Visible and strong leadership from line management and Regional Directors

The successful candidate will be motivated, enthusiastic and driven to work as part of a team to obtain a responsive, high quality, customer and outcome focused service to children/young people, their families and partner agencies across Newport.

Applicants must possess relevant Level 6 (Degree) qualification, for example health, Social Care, youth and community work, teaching or a recognised therapy qualification, including appropriate professional registration relevant to qualification.

The post holder is required to travel to visit and support children and families and also transport young people therefore a full UK Category B (Cars) Driving License and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business use is essential.
