Therapeutic Hoarding Caseworker

Location: Caerphilly or Newport depending on candidate's preference.

Salary: £27,000 per annum

Hours: Full-time (40 hours per week)

About Holistic Hoarding CIC

Holistic Hoarding CIC is a specialist organisation supporting individuals affected by hoarding behaviours through a therapeutic and person-centred approach. We understand that hoarding often develops as a coping mechanism in response to distress, and we provide safe, non-judgemental spaces for clients to explore these experiences without risk of re-traumatisation. Our work includes bespoke training and consultancy for organisations, CPD-accredited courses on hoarding disorders, monthly support groups for individuals and families, and tailored one-to-one practical and therapeutic support. We focus on relapse prevention, harm reduction, and long-term outcomes, ensuring clients are supported even after formal interventions end.

About the Role

Holistic Hoarding CIC is seeking a compassionate and motivated Therapeutic Hoarding Caseworker to join our team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support individuals experiencing hoarding behaviours, helping them work towards safer, healthier living environments through a person-centred and therapeutic approach.

You will work directly with clients in their homes and communities, building trusting relationships and delivering tailored interventions that promote long-term change.

The role is part of our ongoing work in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Supporting People Team, delivering interventions that help clients maintain their tenancies, access support services, and stay safe in their homes.

Key Responsibilities

1. Assessment & Support Planning

Carry out comprehensive, person-centred assessments with individuals experiencing hoarding behaviours to understand their needs, risks, and circumstances.
Develop and implement tailored intervention and support plans that promote sustainable change.

2. Therapeutic Client Support

Deliver consistent one-to-one support using a therapeutic, trauma-informed approach to build trust and motivation.
Provide emotional support to help clients better understand their behaviours.
Support individuals to make gradual, achievable progress in reducing clutter and improving living conditions.
Signpost and connect clients to relevant local services, community resources and support networks.

3. Multi-Agency Working & Coordination

Work collaboratively with a range of professionals including housing, social care, mental health services, and other partners.
Coordinate interventions such as home visits, support sessions, and multi-agency responses to ensure a holistic approach.
Act as an advocate for clients where appropriate.

4. Record Keeping & Reporting

Maintain accurate, up-to-date case records in line with organisational and data protection requirements.
Prepare reports, updates and case summaries to support service delivery and monitoring.

5. Risk & Crisis Management

Identify, assess and respond appropriately to safeguarding concerns and risks.
Manage crisis situations sensitively, including those relating to health, housing or tenancy issues.

Professional Requirements

Essential

Experience working in a support, social care, or mental health setting.
Strong understanding of the psychological, emotional, and social factors associated with hoarding.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build trust and maintain appropriate professional boundaries.
Ability to work independently, manage a caseload, and contribute effectively as part of a team.
Experience of partnership working, including with voluntary or community sector organisations.
Good organisational skills and ability to maintain accurate and timely records.
IT literacy, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion in practice.
Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
Enhanced DBS check required.

Desirable

Experience working with individuals with hoarding behaviours.
Qualifications or training in psychology or a related therapeutic discipline.
Knowledge of local services and support networks within Caerphilly and Gwent.
Experience working with disadvantaged or vulnerable groups.
Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
