About the Role
As a Grounds Maintenance Operative, you will be responsible for maintaining gardens, grounds, and outdoor spaces across our sites to a high standard. You will work both independently and as part of a team, carrying out a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance duties while ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining gardens, grounds, and outdoor spaces to a high standard
- Grass cutting, mowing, strimming, and edging
- Hedge cutting, pruning, and shrub bed maintenance
- Litter collection and general site cleanliness
- Loading and unloading vehicles, tools, and equipment
- Supporting waste removal and site clearance activities
- Planning and organising daily maintenance tasks
- Ensuring all tools and equipment are safe, maintained, and fit for purpose
- Following all Health & Safety policies and procedures
- Wearing appropriate PPE and promoting safe working practices
- Reporting accidents, incidents, and maintenance issues promptly
- Representing Best Lives professionally when interacting with colleagues, service users, and members of the public
- Supporting the continuous improvement of our grounds and outdoor environments
What We're Looking For Essential
- Good standard of English and Maths
- Previous experience in grounds maintenance, gardening, or horticulture
- Experience using grounds maintenance equipment
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Knowledge of Health & Safety requirements
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Physically able to undertake manual outdoor work, including lifting and carrying
- Full UK Driving Licence
Experience Using:
- Strimmers
- Rotary lawn mowers
- Cylinder mowers
- Ride-on mowers
Desirable
- NVQ Horticultural qualification
- Experience working within health and social care settings
- Additional grounds maintenance or landscaping qualifications
- PA1/PA6 Spraying Certificates
