Role Overview
We’re looking for an experienced and technically confident Electrical & Renewables Technical Supervisor to support the safe, compliant and high-quality delivery of our electrical and renewable energy installations.
Reporting to the Operations Director, this is an office-based supervisory role with key responsibility for technical support, DNO applications, MCS compliance, NICEIC assessments and registrations, installation quality and technical assurance.
You’ll work closely with our in-house teams and subcontract installation partners, providing practical technical guidance, reviewing installation documentation and helping resolve technical and compliance issues across our growing portfolio of domestic projects.
You’ll also support programmes delivered alongside strategic partners, helping to maintain consistent electrical standards, resolve technical issues, monitor quality and ensure installations meet the requirements of BS 7671, MCS, NICEIC, DNOs and manufacturers.
It’s a great opportunity for an experienced electrical professional who enjoys being the technical go-to person and wants to play an important role in the growth of renewable technologies including Solar PV, battery storage and EV charging.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Provide technical leadership, supervision and support across electrical and renewable energy installations.
- Be the go-to technical expert for field and office teams, helping resolve complex installation, commissioning and fault queries.
- Produce and review Solar PV system designs using PV*SOL, ensuring designs are technically accurate, compliant and suitable for the property and proposed installation.
- Prepare detailed installation kit lists / Bills of Materials (BOMs) for both domestic and commercial Solar PV and battery storage installations, ensuring all required equipment, components and materials are correctly specified before works commence.
- Review proposed system layouts, equipment specifications, inverter and battery sizing, string configurations and generation forecasts to ensure installations are practical, efficient and compliant.
- Work closely with operations, procurement, surveyors and installation teams to ensure designs and kit lists reflect site requirements and minimise delays, shortages and unnecessary material costs.
- Support the design and specification of commercial and domestic renewable energy installations, providing technical guidance from initial survey through to installation and commissioning.
- Manage DNO applications, notifications and approvals, including G98/G99 submissions and supporting technical documentation.
- Take ownership of MCS compliance, ensuring installation records, processes and evidence are consistently audit-ready.
- Lead preparations for NICEIC assessments, registrations and renewals, ensuring certification, test results and supporting documentation are complete and accurate.
- Review electrical certificates, schematics, photographs, commissioning records and other technical evidence for quality and compliance.
- Support the design, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of Solar PV, battery storage, EV charging and other renewable technologies.
- Ensure electrical works comply with BS 7671, DNO requirements, MCS standards, NICEIC requirements and manufacturer instructions.
- Carry out and support technical inspections, quality audits and installation reviews.
- Investigate non-conformances, identify root causes and drive practical corrective actions.
- Maintain and continuously improve company technical procedures, standards and records.
- Act as a key technical contact for DNOs, certification bodies, manufacturers, suppliers and strategic delivery partners.
- Support resource planning, supply-chain performance and technical issue resolution across multiple domestic installation programmes.
- Help develop the technical capability of our teams by sharing knowledge, improving processes and raising standards across the business.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who combines strong hands-on electrical knowledge with confident leadership and excellent attention to detail.
You’ll understand what great looks like on site, but you’ll also be comfortable managing compliance, documentation, audits and technical standards from an operational management perspective.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Strong practical electrical installation knowledge and significant industry experience.
- A current and confident working knowledge of BS 7671.
- An appropriate recognised electrical installation qualification, such as NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds equivalent or similar.
- A current 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Experience working within an NICEIC-registered and/or MCS-certified business.
- Experience supporting or leading NICEIC assessments, audits, registrations or renewals.
- Knowledge and experience of G98/G99 DNO applications, notifications and approvals.
- Experience with renewable technologies such as Solar PV, battery storage and EV charging.
- A recognised inspection and testing qualification, such as City & Guilds 2391 or equivalent, which would be strongly preferred.
- Relevant Solar PV, battery storage or renewable technology qualifications would be highly desirable.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple technical priorities at once.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to explain technical matters clearly to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Experience designing Solar PV systems using PV*SOL or similar recognised solar design software.
- Good understanding of Solar PV system design, including module selection, inverter sizing, string configuration, shading considerations, system performance and generation forecasting.
- Experience producing accurate kit lists / Bills of Materials for domestic and commercial Solar PV and battery storage installations.
- Ability to interpret site surveys, electrical information, roof layouts and technical specifications and translate these into practical, installation-ready designs.
