Overview
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Automotive Paint Technician / Sales & Stock Manager to join our team at Lyal Paints.
This is a varied role combining automotive paint mixing and colour matching, stock management, pricing, customer service and sales development.
The successful candidate will ideally have experience within the automotive paint, bodyshop or motor trade industry and have the technical knowledge to accurately mix automotive paints while also having a strong commercial approach to growing sales and developing customer relationships.
You will play an important role in the day-to-day running of the business, ensuring customers receive the correct products, stock is managed effectively, pricing remains competitive and opportunities to increase sales are identified.
Key ResponsibilitiesAutomotive Paint & Technical Duties
- Accurately mix automotive paints to customer requirements.
- Carry out accurate colour matching and ensure paint mixes are produced correctly.
- Work with a range of automotive paint systems, including 2K, polyester, synthetic and cellulose.
- Use professional paint mixing schemes and systems.
- Provide customers with technical advice on paints, primers, thinners, hardeners and associated products.
- Ensure all paint mixes meet the required colour and quality standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised and safe mixing area.
Stock Management
- Take responsibility for day-to-day stock control.
- Monitor stock levels of paint, tinters, consumables and associated products.
- Identify products that need reordering and assist with purchasing.
- Monitor slow-moving and fast-moving stock.
- Receive and check deliveries.
- Ensure stock is correctly stored, organised and accounted for.
- Help reduce stock wastage and unnecessary stockholding.
Pricing & Sales
- Review and maintain product pricing to ensure the business remains competitive while protecting profit margins.
- Identify opportunities to increase sales and average customer spend.
- Promote relevant products and additional items to customers.
- Develop strong relationships with existing trade customers.
- Help attract new trade and retail customers.
- Identify opportunities to increase repeat business.
- Monitor competitor pricing and market conditions where appropriate.
- Contribute ideas to improve sales, customer retention and overall business performance.
Customer Service & Trade Counter
- Deal professionally with both trade and retail customers.
- Understand customer requirements and recommend the correct products.
- Process sales and payments accurately.
- Provide excellent customer service at all times.
- Handle customer enquiries and resolve issues professionally.
- Ensure the trade counter is clean, organised and presented to a high standard.
General Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day running of the business.
- Work independently and take responsibility for your area of the business.
- Follow all relevant health and safety procedures.
- Maintain a professional and organised working environment.
- Support the wider team when required.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- Previous experience in automotive paint mixing, bodyshop supplies, automotive refinishing or a similar environment.
- Strong knowledge of automotive paint products and mixing processes.
- Experience with colour matching and paint mixing systems.
- Good understanding of stock control and ordering.
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of pricing and profit margins.
- A genuine interest in increasing sales and developing customer relationships.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good organisational skills.
- The ability to work independently and take responsibility.
- A professional, reliable and positive attitude.
Experience with Valspar, Profit or other professional automotive paint mixing systems would be highly advantageous.
Previous management, trade counter or sales experience would also be beneficial.
