Full job description

We are recruiting dedicated and compassionate Paediatric Complex care support workers to work directly with a happy and positive 6-year-old boy with complex needs in his family home. He is fully reliant on adults to meet his personal care and medical needs. He is a very happy and sociable young boy who loves music, movement, using his sensory equipment and accessing the outdoors.

About the client

Our client has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, Dyskinesia, is a wheelchair user and is enterally fed a blended diet via his gastrostomy. He is non-verbal however with the help of eye-gaze technology, he can communicate, engage and is a real joy to be around. He lives with his parents and sibling in their home which is a non-smoking environment. His parents work collaboratively with the care team, are on board with all care and are warm and welcoming. This is a very rewarding role in which you will be making a positive impact in the child and the family’s life. You will play a key role in providing support on a 1:1 basis, engaging in supporting therapies, providing personal care and helping him with day-to-day activities.

Shift Pattern:

Waking night: 2-3 nights per week

Shift times: 8pm – 8am

Rates of Pay:

Monday – Friday - £18 per hour

Saturday and Sunday - £20 per hour

Bank holidays: 1.5 times the usual weekday hourly rate.

There may be opportunities for additional hours and overtime.

Key Responsibilities

- Seizure management and monitoring

- PEG Feeding (Mic-Key button)

- Moving and Handling

- Administration of medication as required

- Overnight monitoring to ensure safety and wellbeing

What we are looking for

· Previous experience in seizure management

· Able to fit seamlessly into a family home environment

· Fun, enthusiastic and wants to make a difference

· Full Clean UK Driving License.

· Has a passion for working with children; ideally children with cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

· Experience of working in a private family home would be beneficial but an appreciation of the sensitivity, respect and privacy of working within a home environment is essential.

· Takes pride in delivering high-quality care

Other duties include

· Attendance to all relevant training sessions and meetings as required.

· Engagement and regular contact with the case manager and team leader

· Potential to accompany the family on holiday both in the UK and abroad.

· Ability to offer flexibility with working times and hours to help support with periods of sickness or annual leave within the team.

· Excellent communication skills including a high standard of written and spoken English and be proficient in record keeping.

· Basic IT skills.

· Ability to keep calm in a stressful environment and responds well to instructions when given.

· You should enjoy working alongside others as part of a team yet also be able to self-direct tasks and activities with our client.

· Follow care plans and risk assessments as well as routine plans.

· Help with all of the child’s care and observational requirements including personal care, continence care, dressing /undressing and medication administration.

· To fully support all aspects of the child’s ongoing rehabilitation as set out by our child’s treating therapists and professionals.

· To maintain a safe environment for the child; in the home and in all community-based activities where applicable.

· To report immediately to the employer, and the case manager any concerns regarding the child’s medical, physical or psychological health, and to record this appropriately.

· All matters relating to the child’s situation and family are to be treated as confidential and are not to be disclosed to a third party under any circumstance.

· To adhere to CQC compliance in relation to delivery of care and support.

· A No smoking/ vaping policy is strictly in place.

· To adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and risk assessments.
