Hours - Full time

Pay - £169.62 - £230.96

Type: Temporary - Permanent

Start: Septembr 2026

Elementa is working in partnership with a specialist SEND education provider in Dorking, Surrey, supporting children and young people who have experienced trauma and adverse childhood experiences. All students have an EHCP, primarily relating to Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and many may present with challenging behaviour.

The school takes a holistic, therapeutic and creative approach to education, with a strong focus on helping pupils re-engage with learning, build confidence, and develop the life skills needed to achieve their full potential. The aim is to support students either back into mainstream education or towards positive long-term outcomes beyond school.

The leadership team has created a positive, nurturing and progressive environment for both students and staff. Clear expectations, consistency, and relationship-based practice are central to the school's ethos, alongside a genuine commitment to staff wellbeing and professional development.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

Have a positive, resilient, and calm approach
Demonstrate a strong understanding of safeguarding and trauma-informed practice
Be confident working with vulnerable learners with SEMH needs
Be able to set and maintain clear boundaries and routines
Uphold the school's values, expectations, and behaviour policies
Be adaptable, reflective, and committed to inclusive education

The Role

The successful candidate will teach English to Lower School pupils (KS2 and lower KS3) on a 1:1, 2:1, or small-group basis. Students require a personalised and flexible approach to learning, with teaching tailored to meet a range of academic, emotional, and social needs.

As a Lower School English Teacher, responsibilities will include:

Planning and delivering engaging, differentiated English lessons
Supporting the development of reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and communication skills
Adapting teaching to meet a wide range of SEND and SEMH needs
Assessing, monitoring, and recording student progress
Supporting students' emotional regulation and engagement in learning
Producing reports and contributing to EHCP reviews where required
Working collaboratively with pastoral and therapeutic staff
Building positive, consistent relationships with students and promoting a love of literacy

Experience with positive behaviour support strategies, de-escalation techniques, or Team Teach training would be advantageous. Full Team Teach training can be provided for the successful applicant.

Contract & Recruitment Information

Elementa is the recruiting partner; therefore, applicants being considered for the role after pre-screening will be required to complete the registration process for Elementa. This includes full vetting and background checks and application for an Enhanced DBS Disclosure (which may be chargeable at £64.20), unless you have a current Enhanced DBS subscribed to the Update Service.
