We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate Veterinary Care Assistant to join our Corstorphine Vets for Pets practice.

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Veterinary Care Assistant to join our veterinary practice. This role involves supporting veterinarians and veterinary nurses in providing high-quality care to animals. The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in animal health, excellent organisational skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. Previous veterinary experience is advantageous but not essential, as training will be provided. This paid position offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills within a professional environment committed to animal welfare.

This is a great opportunity for someone looking to progress into a student nurse role in the future.

This is a part-time role working 30 hours per week, including early and late shifts. Working every third Saturday or Sunday is non-negotiable.

Responsibilities

Assisting veterinary staff with animal examinations, treatments, and procedures
Preparing and sterilising surgical instruments and equipment
Handling animals safely and compassionately during consultations and procedures
Maintaining accurate records of patient histories, treatments, and laboratory results
Supporting laboratory tasks such as sample collection, processing, and analysis
Cleaning kennels, treatment areas, and equipment to ensure a hygienic environment
Managing stock levels of medical supplies and ordering as necessary
Providing excellent customer service to pet owners and visitors
Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at all times

Requirements

Prior veterinary experience is highly desirable but not essential; training will be provided for suitable candidates
Genuine interest in animal health and welfare
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks effectively
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work well within a team environment
Compassionate attitude towards animals and their owners
Ability to work flexibly within a busy practice setting
A valid right to work in the UK is essential
