Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

We are recruiting qualified Pharmacy Technicians to join our aseptic services teams at two major specialist
centres in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde.

Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre: Support the safe preparation of systemic anticancer therapy (SACT) and other injectable medicines in a highly controlled environment.
Royal Hospital for Children: Contribute to aseptic dispensing of parenteral nutrition, chemotherapy, clinical trial medicines and complex IV antibiotics for neonatal, paediatric and adult patients.

Both roles are critical to patient safety and service delivery, ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and MHRA standards

PVG Scheme membership (Disclosure Scotland) is required for roles involving regulated work with vulnerable groups.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Location based: Royal Hospital for Children
Full-time position
Shift pattern for this post is 36 hours per week

Key responsibilities:

Perform aseptic dispensing of highrisk injectable medicines (e.g., chemotherapy, TPN, CIVAS).
Complete final accuracy checks on dispensed oral medicines.
Supervise and train Pharmacy Support Workers and preregistration staff.
Maintain quality assurance standards and documentation in line with SOPs.
Participate in environmental monitoring and stock control.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Essential:

Registered Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work accurately in a controlled environment.
Strong communication and teamworking skills.

Desirable:

Previous experience in an aseptic unit (full training will be provided).
