Full job description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is one of the largest healthcare systems in the United Kingdom, employing approximately 40,000 staff across a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health services to a population of over 1.15 million people, and to a wider population of 2.2 million when regional and national services are included.

The role:

An opportunity has arisen for a period of 12 months as a Rotational Dental Nurse in Glasgow Dental Hospital. We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Dental Nursing team within the Secondary Care (Acute) Oral Health Service. The successful candidate should demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills and empathy. They will be responsible for providing efficient support on outpatient clinics within the Oral Health Directorate.

Applicants should hold a valid registration as a Dental Nurse with the General Dental Council and provide evidence of continued professional development.

All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

Location based in Glasgow Dental Hospital
Fixed-term Contract for 12 months
Full-time position (36 hours per week)
Working 36.00 hours per week, Monday to Friday 0845 1715.

Key responsibilities:

Assist the clinician during patient assessment and treatment procedures. This includes instruction and endorsing compliance with pre and post treatment advice issued under direction of a dentist.
Ensure effective communication with patients, relatives and significant others, taking account of lifestyle, gender and cultural background, through the use of external resources where necessary e.g. translation services, social work, etc.
Ensure clinical environment is prepared for patients and co-ordinate availability of all equipment (including any necessary personal protective equipment) patient records, lab work, instruments and undergraduate materials for clinician to execute treatment plan for patients.
Ensure patient appointments are arranged in line with the needs of the treatment plan. This may be multidisciplinary and requires liaison with internal and external departments located in other hospitals
Practice within the legal and ethical framework as established by GDC and national legislation to ensure patient interest and well-being are met.
Work within the NHS Scotland, NHS GGC, Health & Safety Executive legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
Empower patients to take responsibility for their oral health, well-being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
Organise own time out with clinical session commitments under the general direction of the Team Leader.
In conjunction with the Team Leader ensure that the nursing resource is utilised efficiently and effectively.
Participate in the appraisal and setting of personal development plans, in line with policy.
Ordering and maintenance of supplies/pharmacy goods and equipment.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

Knowledge of Secondary Care specialist procedures as appropriate to each sub-specialty.
Qualified dental nurse with current professional registration with the General Dental Council.
Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description.
