Full job description

Timber Sales Executive

Full-Time | Timber Merchant | Kent

We are looking for an enthusiastic, commercially minded and proactive Timber Sales Executive to join our established timber business.

This is not purely a desk-based sales position.

The successful candidate will work across the sales office and timber yard, helping to ensure that customer orders, stock requirements, yard operations and deliveries are properly coordinated.

A major part of the position is communication. We need someone who will actively speak to colleagues, obtain the information they need, pass information on and follow matters through to completion.

The successful candidate will be responsible for looking after existing customers while also helping to develop new business and increase sales.

The Role

Key responsibilities will include:

Preparing quotations and processing customer orders.
Making outbound calls to follow up quotations, develop existing customer relationships and win new accounts.
Providing customers with advice on timber products, species, grades, availability and applications.
Coordinating closely with the yard, machining and delivery teams to ensure orders are prepared and delivered efficiently.
Liaising with suppliers and coordinating purchasing requirements where necessary.
Helping to organise and prioritise daily workloads.
Resolving day-to-day operational issues and ensuring agreed actions are followed through to completion.
Maintaining clear communication between customers, sales, yard, transport and management.

The above is not an exhaustive list of duties. The successful candidate will be expected to take a hands-on and flexible approach to the role, assisting with other sales and operational responsibilities as required to support the smooth day-to-day running of the business.

Essential Requirements

A full UK driving licence.
Reliable access to your own transport to travel to work.
Strong communication and organisational skills.
Confidence working between an office and operational yard environment.
Ability to manage competing priorities and follow matters through to completion.

Please note: Our timber branches are not served by public transport, so applicants must be able to travel to work independently.

About You

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in:

Timber merchants

Builders' merchants

Construction materials

Fencing and landscaping products

Joinery or timber products

Trade sales

You should be personable, confident on the telephone and comfortable building long-term relationships with trade customers.

We value people who communicate, take responsibility and follow things through. Although this is primarily a sales position, everyone within the business works together and good communication between the office, yard and drivers is essential.

Timber knowledge would be highly advantageous, although relevant merchant or construction-product sales experience will also be considered.

Salary: Competitive and dependent upon experience

Hours: Full-time, 07:00–17:00, Monday to Friday, plus every alternate Saturday 08:00 – 12:00.

Location: Bean, Medway
