Full job description

Secondary School Liaison Officer

Salary: £27,000 – £29,000 per annum (full-time equivalent).
Actual salary is pro rata, based on the hours and weeks agreed.

Hours: 27.5 – 32.5 hours per week (exact pattern flexible and to be agreed).
Core working hours across the school day are required.
Working pattern: Term-time only in the first instance, with the option to pick up additional hours during school holidays.

What this means in practice (term-time only) The salary above is a full-time equivalent, based on a 37.5-hour working week. For a term-time only working pattern, actual pay is pro rata to the hours worked and weeks worked. Based on a standard 38-week school year plus statutory annual leave: 27.5 hours per week: approx. £16,550 – £17,780 per year 32.5 hours per week: approx. £19,540 – £20,990 per year .These figures are indicative only. They assume standard term dates and statutory annual leave taken during the school holidays – the exact amount will depend on the agreed hours, actual term dates and leave entitlement.

Contract: Fixed-term, 2 years, subject to funding. Includes a 3-month probationary period, with a formal review at 12 months.

Location: Bemorefab CCC, Corby Enterprise Centre, London Road, Priors Hall, Corby, Northants NN17 5EU, with regular travel to secondary schools and family visits.

Reports to: CEO, Bemorefab CCC

DBS: Enhanced DBS check required

About Bemorefab Children's Cancer Charity
Bemorefab Children's Cancer Charity (charity number 1209136) supports children, families and schools through the challenges of childhood cancer. We provide education support, including online tutoring for children too poorly to attend school and catch-up tuition for those who've missed chunks of their education. We support siblings through our Freddie's Friends programme, and we support schools when a child is diagnosed, running assemblies and workshops to help classmates understand cancer in a child-friendly way. Through our FAB People Project, we also work with secondary schools to raise awareness of stem cell donation among young people, encouraging them to join the register and understand how they could one day save a life. This is just part of what we do, and we're growing all the time.

We were founded on lived experience, following our daughter Florence's own cancer journey. Florence went on to win the Pride of Britain Child of Courage Award in 2024, which has helped our charity grow quickly, and we're now building the structures and team we need to support more children and families, both locally and nationally.

Role Purpose
The Secondary School Liaison Officer will be the main point of contact between Bemorefab CCC, secondary school pupils affected by childhood cancer, and their families. You'll make sure young people are getting the tutoring support they need, run our Youth Parliament, and coordinate our schools engagement work for the FAB People Project. This is a relationship-led, highly organised role at the heart of how we support secondary-age pupils and their families.

Key Responsibilities
Family and tutoring liaison:
Be the named point of contact for secondary school pupils and their families accessing Bemorefab CCC support. Liaise regularly with families to make sure young people are matched with, and receiving, the right tutoring. Check in regularly with tutors to monitor progress and pick up any concerns early. Build trusted, supportive relationships with pupils and families throughout their time with the charity.

Youth Parliament:
Set up, run and coordinate a Youth Parliament made up of secondary school pupils. Plan and facilitate regular sessions and campaigns, coordinating guest speakers and delivery partners rather than delivering sessions yourself. Use the Youth Parliament's voice and ideas to help shape Bemorefab CCC's decisions.

FAB People Project and schools engagement
Contact secondary schools and build relationships to arrange FAB People Project visits. Manage the admin and logistics of school visits, including coordinating stem cell swabbing sessions. Coordinate delivery partners for talks and sessions – this role does not involve delivering talks directly.

General
Keep accurate, up-to-date records of contact with pupils, families and schools, in line with our safeguarding procedures. Act as a safe, approachable point of contact for secondary school pupils, without taking on a teaching role. Support wider Bemorefab CCC events and campaigns as needed.

Person Specification
Essential

Experience building relationships with young people, families and/or schools – for example in a school, youth work, or family support setting.
Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and partners at once.
A confident, warm communicator who can build trust quickly with children, families and professionals.
Self-motivated and driven, comfortable helping to shape a new role as it grows.
A strong understanding of, and commitment to, safeguarding best practice.
Willingness to undergo an Enhanced DBS check.
A full, valid UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for travel between schools/families (or similar, depending on the role).

Desirable

Experience in a school-based liaison, pastoral or family support role – similar to a Student Liaison Officer.
Understanding of the impact of childhood cancer on young people and families.
Experience coordinating volunteer, peer support or youth voice/participation groups.

Funding
This post is funded through grant income. Continuation of the role beyond the funded period is subject to further funding being secured.
