The successful post holder will have experience of leading Equalities, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) improvements in services, highly developed communication and influencing skills, and the ability to analyse and communicate data effectively.
This is a diverse role, in an organisation that serves the diverse populations of South East London. You will be working in a dynamic environment alongside a committed and experienced senior leadership team, and with the Trust's operational directorate teams.

Provision of senior expertise on equality, diversity, inclusion and human rights across the organisation, supporting the Operational Directorates to work towards equity of access, experience, and outcomes for service users.
Support for services to take an evidence-based approach to addressing health inequalities experienced by global majority communities, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and others to ensure equality, diversity and inclusion are integral to the delivery of the Trust's services and strategies.
Ensuring that the Trust is advised of legislative and regulatory requirements laid out in the Equality Act 2010, the Human Right Act 1998 and related regulated requirements including the Accessible Information Standard, the Patient and Carer Race Equity Framework (PCREF) and the NHS Equality Delivery System.
The development and implementation of programmes of work to improve service user equity of access, experience and outcomes and to reduce health inequalities. This will include working closely with colleagues implementing our Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF), and supporting the delivery of the Trust's Anti-racism plan.
Together with the workforce EDI lead, support the Trust wide EDI Group including representatives from all key teams, and ensuring there is a regular focus on learning and improvement.
Coordinating the development, implementation and monitoring of service delivery sections of the Trust's Integrated Equalities Action Plan.
The post is part of the Strategy and Transformation Directorate, reporting to the Deputy Chief Strategy Officer, Strategy and Partnerships. The team works closely with the Trust Executive Team, and Corporate and Operational Directorates to help set Trust strategy and lead strategic planning; lead engagement with our communities, service users and carers, and partners; service user and carer involvement in the Trust, and to support service improvement through Trustwide transformation programmes.
This role is a mix of home and office working. For office work the role is based at our Trust Headquarters, Maudsley Hospital.
Strategy, Policy and Leadership
Provide strategic direction and effective leadership for the Trust’s service user equality and human rights work and provide expert advice on health inequalities and ensuring service user equity of access, experience and outcomes to the Executive, Board, governance meetings and relevant service leads across the trust.
Provide expert knowledge and advice on legislative and regulatory requirements laid out in the Equality Act 2010, the Human Rights Act 1998 and other related regulatory requirements such as the Accessible Information Standard, Equality Delivery System and Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework
Maintain awareness of external developments in EDI policy and practice relevant to the NHS, advising the Trust of relevant local and national developments and the impact these may have
Engage external partners and NHS bodies in bringing initiatives into the Trust and oversee the effective co-ordination and delivery of such initiatives. ·
Raise and maintain the profile of Equality and Human Rights in the Trust, in order to develop and sustain a culture that embraces and engages positively with equality and human rights in service planning and delivery.
Develop and review trust-wide policy and procedures in areas related to the Trust’s service user equalities work.
Planning, Delivery and Reporting
Coordinate the development, implementation and monitoring of service delivery sections of the Trust’s Integrated Equalities Action Plan, covering both Trust-wide and directorate equality objectives
Produce annual Trust-wide and local level equality information for submission to the Board and subsequent publication to ensure the Trust is compliant in meeting the requirements of the Public Sector Equality Duty
Work with senior managers, Service Directors, groups and committees across the Trust in reviewing and developing strategies, solutions and actions relevant to identified gaps or areas of concern and which support overall delivery of the Trust strategy.
Provide advice and support to Trust committees, professional and clinical leads, staff and managers to embed equality and human rights into service development and delivery.
Support services to carry out Equality Impact Assessments to ensure that service and policy developments improve equity of access, experience and outcomes for service users and carers.
Provide quality assurance and support to ensure the effective use of equality impact assessments in the Trust’s strategy, policy and service development, and work collaboratively with Trust teams to ensure all schemes are assessed appropriately.
Work with key Trust departments (such as the PCREF Joint Working Groups, Anti-racism plan leads, Patient Involvement leads, Maudsley Learning, the Stakeholder Engagement team, PALS and Complaints, and Service managers) to improve Trust practice and processes in equality and human rights for service users and carers.
Work in partnership with the Trust staff, service user and carer groups, community members and partner organisations to deliver on agreed programmes of work.
Commission, manage and review the contract for the Trust’s interpreting services and any other relevant contracts.
Support, as appropriate, Trust-wide design and provision of equalities related training
Research and Analysis
Review and analyse quantitative and qualitative evidence from multiple sources to inform the equalities work programme, monitoring change throughout
Undertake surveys, audits, and desktop research to facilitate the development and delivery of the trust’s service user equalities work
Provide advice and specialist input into the identification, development and review of strategies, policies, procedures and guidelines related to service user and carer equalities.
Review and analyse service user data relating to service users with a range of protected characteristics from the communities the Trust serves and ensure this is being used by services to inform service improvement
Research, audit and advise on Trust practices, functions and processes in terms of equity including areas that require discretion and which contain complex, contentious and/or sensitive information.
Communication and Engagement
Represent the Trust on equality and human rights with service user groups, third sector organisations, stakeholders, and external partners.
Communicate verbally and in writing with staff, service users, Governors, partner organisations and external stakeholders.
Prepare and present written reports to governance and other senior level meetings and provide regular reports on progress in project areas, work streams and areas of focused work.
Undertake sessions of prolonged concentration including leading project work and related meetings, delivering presentations and reports, writing policies and reports, auditing, commissioning and developing contracts, analysing data and delivering training.
Deliver responses to requests for information from internal and external inspections and bid requests.
Ensure the effective dissemination of up-to-date information relevant to service user equality and human rights within the Trust.
