Full job description

Kitchen Cook

Monday–Friday, 8:00am–3:00pm

Hours per week: 35 hours

Pay: £14 per hour

Break: 20-minute unpaid break per shift

Location: Cafe/Deli

Job Type: Permanent

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced, reliable and hardworking Cook to join our team.

This is a hands on role in a busy cafe/deli environment. You'll be responsible for preparing and cooking our hot food, making sandwiches and other deli items, maintaining a clean and organised kitchen, and helping serve customers during busy periods.

Previous professional kitchen or cooking experience is essential. You don't need to be a qualified chef, but you must be comfortable working independently on a grill and preparing food consistently to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Cooking & Food Preparation

* Cook hot food to order using the grill, fryers and other kitchen equipment.

* Prepare breakfast items including bacon, sausages, eggs and breakfast sandwiches.

* Cook and assemble hot sandwiches, burgers and other deli dishes.

* Prepare fried chicken and other cooked menu items.

* Follow recipes, portion sizes and presentation standards.

* Prepare ingredients ahead of service.

* Ensure food is cooked safely and to the correct temperatures.

* Maintain consistency in the quality and portioning of food.

* Assist with stock rotation and minimise unnecessary food waste.

Sandwich & Cold Food Preparation

* Prepare fresh sandwiches, wraps and other cold deli items.

* Prepare sandwich fillings and ingredients.

* Keep the sandwich preparation area stocked, clean and organised.

* Follow portioning and presentation standards.

Cleaning & Food Hygiene

* Keep all kitchen and food preparation areas clean throughout the day.

* Clean grills, fryers, work surfaces, equipment and utensils.

* Complete opening, throughout-the-day and closing cleaning tasks.

* Follow food hygiene and food safety procedures at all times.

* Follow correct procedures for storing, labelling and rotating food.

* Complete required temperature and food safety checks.

* Help maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.

Front of House

Although this is primarily a kitchen based role, everyone works together during busy periods.

You may occasionally be required to:

* Serve customers at the counter.

* Take customer orders.

* Prepare and hand over takeaway orders.

* Restock the front counter and displays.

* Help keep the customer area clean and presentable.

* Provide friendly and professional customer service.

What We're Looking For

Essential:

* Previous experience working in a professional kitchen, cafe, deli or similar food environment.

* Confident cooking food to order on a grill.

* Good understanding of basic food hygiene and kitchen safety.

* Able to work efficiently during busy service periods.

* Reliable and punctual.

* Clean, organised and able to maintain good standards without constant supervision.

* Comfortable working as part of a small team.

* Willing to help with different areas of the business when required.

Desirable:

* Experience working in a cafe, sandwich shop or deli.

* Experience with fryers and commercial kitchen equipment.

* Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate.

* Previous customer service or front of house experience.

The Person

We're looking for somebody who takes pride in their work and understands that working in a small deli means being part of a team.

There will be busy periods where everyone needs to get stuck in - whether that's cooking orders, making sandwiches, serving a customer or cleaning down.

Typical Working Day

8:00am – 3:00pm, Monday to Friday

The day will generally involve preparing for service, cooking and assembling customer orders throughout the day, keeping prep levels topped up, maintaining kitchen cleanliness and completing cleaning and close down duties before finishing.

Pay: £14.00 per hour
