The role
As an Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician, you’ll carry out high‑quality assembly, testing and wiring activities on electrical and electronic equipment used in nuclear and defence applications. Your work will directly support reactor inspection systems, safety circuits and control equipment relied upon in highly regulated environments.
Day-to-day, you’ll test Analogue PCBs and electrical equipment to approved test documentation and complete work within a certified quality management system. In return, you’ll develop specialist assembly, testing and wiring expertise, gain exposure to nuclear‑grade equipment, and build a secure, long‑term career in a growing sector with strong future demand.
Assembling and wiring electrical and electronic units, panels and cubicles to approved instructions
Test of analogue PCBs (Hand soldered through-hole PCB technology).
Fault investigation and repair of analogue PCBs (discrete through-hole components and ICs) using bench meters, oscilloscopes and other test equipment.
Production of detailed investigation and fault reports, including identification of root causes (with Engineering assistance).
Provide local support, fault finding on Low Voltage plant and equipment within in the facility.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Whetstone, Leicester.
Essential experience of the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician:
Proven experience in electrical or electronic assembly, testing and wiring activities
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, wiring schedules and build documentation
Experience assembling analogue electronic modules or printed circuit boards
Strong attention to detail within quality‑controlled production environments
Confidence working to defined processes and documenting completed work accurately
Qualifications for the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician:
Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
HNC level study in relevant electrical or electronic modules is desirable
Additional assembly or wiring certifications would be advantageous
Security Clearance
