Newsreader, Times Radio - Broadcast Journalist - 12 Month FTC
Are you passionate about politics? Do you enjoy the debate but want conversation over confrontation? Times Radio embodies the journalistic values, integrity and expertise of The Times and Sunday Times. Not only is it the broadcasting arm of those renowned publications - it is also the home of world-class broadcasting talent including Andrew Neil, John Pienaar, Jane Garvey and Fi Glover.
Your Role: You will be a leading Times Radio on-air newsreader. You will be responsible for writing and producing your own bulletins, every half an hour. Reporting to the Head of News, you will monitor Times Radio looking for news-making clips and communicate the day’s biggest stories to an audience engaged with, and knowledgeable about, current affairs.
The Team: You will be an integral part of the news team here at News Broadcasting. We deliver world class news and sport bulletins across our national radio networks; Times Radio, talkSPORT, TALK and Virgin Radio. We also provide live studio two-ways on breaking stories, on-location reporting and bespoke original stories. The team is agile in reacting to major news events and dynamic in how it covers them. Though Broadcast Journalists may be typically assigned to one Network they will frequently contribute to the others. Our output is often visualised - some bulletins fully in-vision and presented to camera - as the traditional boundaries between radio and tv disappear.
Day to day you will:
Produce and present the station's all-important news bulletins.
Set the news agenda by making key editorial decisions in conjunction with senior managers.
Report on breaking stories in the studio and on location during live programming.
Command the respect of a well-informed audience.
Work with the rest of the news team to produce the highest quality news scripts and audio across all our stations.
Present, edit and publish The Times Radio News Briefing Podcast.
Liaise with production teams to maximise the on-air content.
What we’re looking for from you:
Exceptional news judgement, with the ability to filter out spin.
An exceptional broadcasting voice and delivery.
First-class political knowledge.
Significant experience of a very fast-paced broadcast newsroom.
Razor-sharp clarity of writing.
Calmness and speed under pressure.
Excellent team-working skills .
Brilliant audio editing ability.
An understanding of News UK’s diverse media portfolio.
Evidence of your news broadcasting skills.
