Full job description

The Role

Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the CFO and wider operational teams, you will be responsible for supporting the day-to-day running of the finance function, ensuring supplier accounts, bank transactions and accounting records are maintained accurately and efficiently. You will also assist with the implementation of new financial processes and controls as the business transitions towards a more integrated accounting and reporting environment.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

Process supplier invoices accurately and promptly.
Match invoices to Purchase Orders and supporting documentation.
Investigate and resolve supplier invoice queries.
Maintain supplier account records.
Reconcile supplier statements.
Monitor aged creditors and identify overdue balances.
Assist with supplier payment runs.
Liaise with suppliers regarding account queries and payment status.
Support implementation of Accounts Payable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Bank Reconciliations

Perform daily and weekly bank reconciliations.
Investigate unreconciled transactions.
Monitor cash receipts and payments.
Ensure banking records agree to accounting records.
Support cash-flow reporting and forecasting activities.

Sales Ledger & Certifications

Raise sales invoices from approved applications and certifications.
Post certified applications accurately into Sage 50 and Xero.
Maintain supporting documentation for customer invoices.
Assist with debtor reconciliations.
Support the credit control process where required.

General Bookkeeping

Post journals and accounting transactions.
Maintain nominal ledger accuracy.
Process overhead invoices and expenses.
Assist with VAT preparation and supporting schedules.
Maintain organised electronic filing systems.
Support month-end accounting procedures.
Assist with management information preparation.

Systems & Process Improvement

Assist with migration and implementation of Xero.
Maintain accurate accounting records within Sage 50 Accounts Professional.
Support development of improved financial controls.
Help document and improve finance processes.
Ensure a clear audit trail exists for all transactions.

Candidate Requirements

Essential

Previous bookkeeping or Accounts Payable experience.
Experience using Sage 50 Accounts.
Strong bank reconciliation experience.
Good Excel skills.
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong organisational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities.
Professional and confident communication skills.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Desirable

Experience using Xero.
Construction industry experience.
CIS knowledge.
Experience with applications, certifications and retentions.
AAT qualified or studying towards an accounting qualification.
Experience working within a finance transformation or process improvement environment.
