Job description

The Young Adult Support Worker (YASW) is a specialist role operating within Greater Manchester's Integrated Offender Management (IOM) framework. Working within a devolved criminal justice and public service environment, the role contributes to a whole-system approach to reducing offending and improving outcomes for young adults. IOM forms a key part of the wider Greater Manchester partnership model, bringing together criminal justice agencies, local authorities, health services, housing providers and voluntary sector organisations to address the complex needs of individuals involved in serious acquisitive crime.

The primary focus of the role is supporting young adults aged 18 to 25 years (although not exclusively) who are identified through the IOM scheme. The post holder will work collaboratively with probation practitioners, Greater Manchester Police and a wide range of partner agencies across all ten Greater Manchester boroughs. Regular travel throughout Greater Manchester is tfore an essential requirement of the role.

The YASW does not hold direct case management responsibility. Instead, the role focuses on developing effective working relationships with individuals subject to IOM arrangements, helping them engage with services and opportunities that support positive change. Through providing tailored interventions and practical support, the YASW will work to reduce reoffending, increase compliance and promote long-term rehabilitation.

A key aspect of the role is the ability to build trust, credibility and rapport with a complex and often high-risk cohort of young adults. Success will depend on the post holder's ability to engage individuals who may be resistant to support, whilst working collaboratively with professionals across the Greater Manchester system to remove barriers and coordinate effective interventions.

Working Arrangements & Further Information

The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements w business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.

For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.

Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on 'modernised' terms in their current post or onto 'unmodernised' MoJ terms if they are on 'unmodernised' terms at their current post. Details will be available if an offer is made.

Standard full time working hours are 37 hours per week excluding breaks which are unpaid. HMPPS welcomes part-time, flexible and job-sharing working patterns, w they meet the demands of the role and business needs. Annual Leave

Annual leave is 25 days on appointment and will increase to 30 days after five years’ service, plus public holidays. Leave for part-time and job share posts will be calculated on a pro-rata basis
