Job description

We are looking for a talented support practitioner with a passion for the use of assistive technologies in overcoming barriers, meeting needs and empowering young people toward greater independence.

We have an exciting opportunity at our Openshaw campus to join our Supported Learning Department as an Assistive Technology Assistant on a permanent, full-time (35 hours per week) basis (A Term Time Only post is available for the right candidate).

Our Openshaw campus is a vibrant, modern hub of learning, equipped with outstanding, industry-standard facilities designed to inspire both staff and students. Located just outside Manchester city centre, the campus offers a wide range of vocational and academic courses, with specialist spaces for areas such as construction, engineering, health, and digital.

The Manchester College is the Largest Further Education College in the United Kingdom and has the largest provisions for 16-19yrs olds, adults, and higher education in Greater Manchester. Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need:

Level 2 qualification in Assistive Technology or equivalent experience and willingness to obtain a Level 2 Assistive Technology qualification.
Minimum of a Level 2 qualification in English and Maths.
Experience of working with young people and adults with a SEND in an education environment using Assistive Technology.
Very good knowledge of specialist software in supporting learners with a SEND.
Experience and knowledge, empathy and understanding of the specific issues relating to the education of young people and adults with a SEND.
Experienced and competent in the use of IT systems, such as Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience of wide-ranging resource modification processes.
Experience of delivering training and instruction to others in the application of Assistive Technologies.
Excellent communication skills in English, both spoken and written; and the ability to communicate effectively with learners, teachers, parents and other educational professionals.
Ability to self-evaluate and make necessary adaptations to own practice and make suggestions to others.
Successfully contribute to support a culture of teamwork within a multi-disciplinary environment.
