The role
W J King is an established multi-franchise automotive retail group operating a network of vehicle dealerships and petrol forecourts across Kent and South East London.
We are looking for a practical, hands-on IT Support & Infrastructure Technician to keep the Group's day-to-day technology running reliably across all of our locations.
This role is deliberately focused on practical IT support rather than IT strategy. You will spend your time solving user problems, maintaining PCs and other equipment, setting up users and devices, supporting networks and connectivity, administering routine system access and working with external suppliers when specialist support is required.
You will be the main internal point of contact for everyday IT issues, so we are looking for somebody who enjoys fixing problems, visiting sites and helping colleagues rather than somebody seeking a senior strategic or management role.
Key responsibilities
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Providing hands-on first and second-line IT support to users across W J King sites.
Diagnosing and resolving hardware, software, login, printing, connectivity and general user issues.
Installing, configuring, maintaining and replacing PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, mobile devices and other IT equipment.
Setting up new employees with the correct equipment, email accounts, system access and permissions.
Managing routine user administration including password resets, access changes, leavers and account permissions.
Supporting Microsoft 365 and Microsoft business environments including Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, Active Directory / Entra ID and related applications.
Providing first-line support for Keyloop and dealership/manufacturer systems, including user access and escalation to the relevant supplier where required.
Supporting site networks, internet connectivity, Wi-Fi, switches, routers, VPNs and other basic network infrastructure.
Supporting company telephony and communications equipment.
Carrying out routine checks on endpoint protection, software updates, patching, backups and other basic IT security controls.
Responding quickly to IT incidents that prevent a dealership or department from operating normally.
Working with external IT, telecoms, software and hardware suppliers to resolve issues that require specialist or third-line support.
Maintaining an accurate register of PCs, laptops, phones, network equipment, software licences and other IT assets.
Keeping straightforward technical documentation up to date, including equipment details, supplier contacts and basic system information.
Setting up and moving IT equipment during office moves, refurbishments, new dealership openings and other operational changes.
Providing simple user guidance and training where employees need help using existing systems.
Visiting W J King sites regularly to resolve issues in person and carry out installations, replacements and routine maintenance.
About you
We are looking for somebody with solid practical IT support experience who is comfortable being the person colleagues call when something is not working.
You do not need to be an IT strategist or senior manager. The most important qualities are practical technical ability, reliability, patience with users and the confidence to investigate a problem and get it resolved.
Essential experience
Practical experience in an IT Support, IT Technician, Desktop Support, 2nd Line Support or similar role.
Good hands-on knowledge of Windows PCs, laptops, printers and common business software.
Experience supporting Microsoft 365, Outlook, Teams and user accounts.
Working knowledge of Active Directory / Entra ID, permissions and user administration.
A practical understanding of business networks, Wi-Fi, internet connectivity and basic network troubleshooting.
Ability to diagnose faults methodically and know when an issue needs to be escalated to a specialist supplier.
Good organisational skills and the ability to keep equipment and user records accurate.
A helpful and patient manner when supporting non-technical colleagues.
Ability to work independently and prioritise urgent issues affecting dealership operations.
Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between Group locations.
Particularly desirable
Experience in any of the following would be useful, but is not essential:
Keyloop / Autoline / Drive or another automotive Dealer Management System.
IT support within a motor dealership, automotive group or other multi-site business.
Basic Windows Server administration.
Business telephony systems.
Endpoint security, patching and backup monitoring.
Supporting dealership manufacturer portals and automotive retail systems.
Motor-trade experience is an advantage but is not essential. A good IT Support Technician from another multi-site business who is willing to learn our dealership systems would be very welcome.

This is a varied, practical IT role within an established privately owned business. You will have the opportunity to work across a wide range of systems and locations without the corporate or strategic responsibilities of a senior IT management position.
