Job Introduction

East Durham College is seeking an experienced Engineering professional to join our team as a teacher.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone working in industry who is ready to take the next step — using their knowledge and experience to inspire and develop the next generation of engineers.

You don’t need to be an experienced teacher to apply. If you have strong industry expertise and a genuine interest in supporting others to succeed, we will provide full support to help you gain a teaching qualification while you work.

About the Role

You will deliver high-quality, industry-relevant teaching across Levels 1–4, supporting learners aged 14–19+ to develop the skills, knowledge, and behaviours needed for employment or further study. You will also contribute to curriculum development, employer engagement, and continuous improvement within a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

What you’ll be doing

Deliver engaging practical and theory-based Engineering sessions aligned with industry and awarding body standards
Plan and develop high-quality learning materials, including digital and online resources
Assess learner work, providing clear and constructive feedback
Monitor learner progress, attendance, and achievement accurately
Provide academic and pastoral support, including careers and progression advice
Contribute to curriculum development, internal verification, and quality improvement
Build strong links with employers to support work experience and industry relevance
Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge through continuous professional development
Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and a positive learning environment

What we’re looking for

Essential

A Level 6 qualification in Engineering (or a related discipline)
GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
Strong industry experience — teaching experience is not essential
A teaching qualification (PGCE/Cert Ed/DTLLS) is desirable, but not required — full support will be provided to achieve this
An Assessor Award (or willingness to work towards)
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, professional approach

Desirable

Internal Verifier (IV) Award
Experience supporting learners with additional needs (SEN)
Knowledge of awarding body requirements and quality assurance processes
