Full job description

Location: Pontypridd (Office Based)

Hours: 25 hours per week (Monday to Friday) - Flexible Hours can be considered

Salary: £24,000.00 - £28,000.00 (Pro-Rata)

Baker Ashley is a progressive and well-established law firm specialising in Conveyancing and Employment Law. We pride ourselves on delivering an exceptional service to our clients, and we're looking for a proactive, organised and detail-focused Part-Time Finance Assistant to join our busy Finance Department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in legal accounts who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where accuracy, organisation and teamwork are key.

About the Role

Working closely with the Senior Finance Manager and a full time Finance Associate, you will play an integral role in the day-to-day running of the firm's finance function, ensuring compliance with the SRA Accounts Rules while supporting fee earners and colleagues across the business with a wide variety of finance and legal accounting duties.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

Updating the firm's cashbook throughout the day
Posting client and office account transactions
Managing the finance inbox and responding to financial queries
Processing Faster Payments and CHAPS payments
Processing conveyancing completion packs
Processing SDLT payments
Managing HMLR financial transactions
Client to office, office to client and client to client transfers
End of day banking and account transfers
Monitoring and resolving ledger balances and ledger queries
Carrying out client and office ledger reconciliations
Completing daily and monthly three-way reconciliations
Assisting with cashflow forecasting
Processing purchase ledger invoices
Maintaining strong supplier relationships
Running financial and management reports
Processing payroll
Maintaining accurate records within Xero, including reconciliations
Using Clio case management software
Assisting with SRA Accounts Rules compliance
Supporting the preparation of year-end accounts
Processing drawdowns and authorised write-offs
Updating finance spreadsheets and internal reporting documents
Providing general financial support across the business

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who is:

Experienced in legal accounts, ideally within a conveyancing practice
Familiar with the SRA Accounts Rules
Confident using Xero (or similar accounting software)
Experienced using legal case management systems such as Clio, Hoowla or similar
Highly organised with exceptional attention to detail
Able to prioritise multiple tasks and work efficiently under pressure
Trustworthy, professional and able to handle confidential financial information
An excellent communicator with a positive and proactive approach

Essential

Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in a finance or legal accounts role within a law firm
Good understanding of legal accounting procedures
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Excel
Excellent numerical and analytical skills

Desirable

AAT qualified (qualified by experience would be considered)
Experience within conveyancing finance
Knowledge of payroll processing
Experience assisting with year-end accounts and audits
