About the role

A specialist SEMH school in Preston, supporting children and young people who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges that impact their education and daily life.

The school focuses on preparing pupils for life beyond the classroom by developing practical skills, emotional resilience, and confidence. Learning is highly personalised, relationship‑led, and delivered within a calm, structured, and supportive environment.

Full‑time
Start: ASAP

Key Responsibilities

Deliver life skills and personal development sessions to pupils on a 1:1 or small‑group basis.
Support pupils to develop skills such as:
Communication and social skills
Emotional regulation and self‑awareness
Independence and responsibility
Problem‑solving and decision‑making
Adapt activities to suit individual needs, abilities, and emotional readiness.
Use SEMH‑informed and trauma‑aware approaches to encourage engagement and participation.
Support pupils during transitions, routines, and unstructured times where life skills can be reinforced.
Build positive, trusting relationships that motivate pupils and promote self‑esteem.
Monitor engagement and progress, contributing to individual support or development plans.

Pre‑requisites

Experience working with children or young people with:
SEMH needs
Behavioural challenges
Additional or complex needs
An understanding of life skills education and how it supports emotional wellbeing and independence.
A calm, patient, and flexible approach to supporting pupils who may struggle with regulation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Relevant qualifications or experience such as:
Education or Teaching Assistant roles
Youth Work
Life Skills or Pastoral support
Care or mentoring
