Full job description

Following continued learner growth and the expansion of our Higher Education provision, Milton Keynes College is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Lecturer in Games Design & Development to join our growing Digital and Creative curriculum area.

This role will contribute to delivery across our Foundation Degree and Top‑Up provision in Games Design & Development, acting as module lead, supporting learners across Levels 4–6. The successful candidate will bring strong industry‑informed practice into the classroom, helping students develop the technical skills, creative confidence, and professional behaviours required for progression into the games industry or related creative technology sectors.

We are particularly interested in applicants who demonstrate strength in one or more specialist areas of games development and who can work flexibly across art, animation, design, and/or programming contexts. Candidates are not expected to cover all areas but should bring depth in their discipline and the ability to collaborate across a multidisciplinary delivery team.

SPECIALIST SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

Applicants may come from art‑focused, design‑focused, or technical/programming backgrounds. Strength in one or more of the following areas is essential:

Games Art, Animation & Visual Practice:

3D asset creation, modelling, texturing and optimisation for real‑time environments
Character, environment or prop development from concept through to engine‑ready assets
Animation principles and workflows, including rigging, keyframing and implementation
Visual design fundamentals including composition, colour theory, form, silhouette, and readability
Experience working with real‑time engines (e.g. Unreal Engine) for asset integration and presentation

Games Design, Programming & Technical Systems:

Programming or visual scripting for gameplay systems using Unreal Engine and/or Unity
Gameplay mechanics, interaction systems, player controllers or design prototyping
Game and player experience design, including usability, feedback, accessibility and iteration
Systems thinking, level design principles, flow, pacing and player engagement
Awareness of production pipelines, version control and collaborative development workflows

Shared Professional Practice:

Understanding of full games development pipelines from ideation to implementation
Ability to simulate studio‑based, project‑led learning environments
Portfolio‑driven practice aligned to industry expectations
Awareness of current and emerging tools, technologies and trends within games development

The successful candidate will contribute to delivery across modules including (but not limited to):

Games Prototyping and Player Experience
3D Modelling, Animation and Visual Design
Creative, Collaborative and Experimental Projects
Industry Practice, Pipelines and Professional Portfolio Development
Independent and Team‑Based Project Modules at Levels 4–6

You will support learners working across different pathways (Art, Animation, Design, Programming), helping them develop specialist identity while understanding how disciplines integrate within professional production pipelines.
