Full job description

Overview

Join our the team on our strawberry farm as a Tractor Driver and Spray Operator, where your expertise will drive efficiency and innovation across our farming operations. In this vital role, you will operate tractors and specialized equipment to apply pesticides and beneficial insects to maintain the health of our crops. Your hands-on skills and mechanical knowledge will ensure smooth daily operations, supporting sustainable farming practices and high-quality produce. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to agricultural success while honing your technical abilities in a fast-paced environment.

Duties

Safely operate tractors, sprayers, and related machinery to perform pesticide application, and crop spraying tasks.
Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment using hand tools, power tools, and mechanical knowledge to ensure optimal performance.
Assist with general farm tasks such as machinery maintenance, building repairs and other general horticultural activities.
Monitor crop health and work with the farm manager and agronomist to maximise the efficacy of applications.
Maintain accurate records of spray applications, equipment maintenance, and daily operational logs.
Perform inspections of machinery ; troubleshoot mechanical issues promptly to minimize downtime.
Support overall farm maintenance by using hand tools and power tools for repairs or installations as needed.
Alongside spraying duties other tasks will include a wide range of jobs from general estate maintenance, arable operations and poly tunnel construction.

Qualifications

Prior experience operating agricultural machinery such as tractors or is highly preferred.
The ideal candidate would have PA1, PA2 sprayer qualifications, however this is not essential as full training can be provided.
Forklift and telehandler certificates beneficial, but again not essential as we can arrange training for the correct candidate. A 'can do', mind set and the ability to problem solve being more important.
Mechanical knowledge with the ability to perform basic repairs and maintenance on equipment.
Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and small equipment safely and effectively.
Basic math skills for measuring chemicals, calculating application rates, or adjusting equipment settings.
Physical stamina for heavy lifting, extended periods of outdoor work, and manual labour tasks.
Strong attention to detail with excellent safety awareness to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and farm protocols.
