Overview
To ensure the provision of the highest quality care and support to the residents in line with their individual wishes and care planning arrangements, maximising their choice and independence at all times. To supervise and provide leadership to the home team in their duties, allocating tasks as required, ensuring sufficient resource whilst maintaining clear and accurate records at all times. Ensure that the care within the home is of a high standard at all times.
Duties
- Ensure that excellent quality care is offered to our residents maintaining their physical and emotional wellbeing within a safe and friendly environment, allowing them to make personal choices with regard to their daily lives, to maintain the dignity of our residents and act with respect at all times.
- Support the Home Manager and Deputy Home Manager to ensure the above remit is maintained.
- Mentor and assist new and less experienced members of staff and act as a role model for excellent quality care.
- Work effectively with Housekeeping Team to ensure the environment is maintained to a high standard.
- Supervise and provide leadership to the home team in their duties, allocating tasks as required, ensuring sufficient resource whilst maintaining clear and accurate records at all times
- Maintain the ethos of Springfield Healthcare and to champion a person-centred approach to all aspects of care, keeping the residents at the centre of any care delivered.
- Ensure you are an ambassador for Springfield Healthcare when dealing with any health and social care colleagues, relatives, friends and advocates of our residents, both inside and outside of the premises.
- Mentoring and peer supervising care workers and ensuring the correct documentation is completed and any problems, issues or concerns are reported to the deputy/manager.
- Ensuring care staff feel supported to complete their roles and are able to discuss any concerns issues or problems. To ensure communication lines are open and all staff are aware of any information appertaining to the care and wellbeing of the residents, changes to work procedures, or any changes to the working environment.
- Quality care for all residents including the correct use of moving and handling equipment, risk assessments when caring for residents who may be at risk of falls, or who may harm themselves or others, maintaining excellent standards of personal care, ensuring all residents have access to the local community, garden, and their outside interests.
- Ensuring that the nutrition and fluids received by residents is appropriate, adequate and easily accessible and that records are up to date.
- Maintaining the correct documentation for all aspects of resident care.
- Responsibility for ordering of medication and ensuring constant supply for all residents.
- Monitoring and auditing the work undertaken by the team (e.g. supervisions have taken place, care plan reviews have been undertaken).
- Assisting the Home Manager in devising the staff rota for the home.
- Assisting as requested by the Home Manager with on-call.
- Deputise for the Deputy Home Manager in their absence.
- Undertaking care plan reviews with resident’s family.
Leadership
- Daily planning of the shift using the allocation plans and planning rota for the home.
- Work in conjunction and under the direction of the Deputy Home Manager.
- Communicating across the communities to check adequate staffing levels.
- Inspire and motivate the team and teach other staff in all aspects of the day to day home activities.
- Lead by example, setting the pace and the standard.
- Praise and recognise good performance.
- Be able to challenge poor performance and report any problems to the Home Manager.
- Be pro-active in problem solving.
- Work on own initiative to manage problems and cascade to the Home Manager as necessary.
- Promote the company ethos of quality care delivery and strive towards recognition by awarding bodies and outside agencies.
- Ensure that all commodities used in and around the home are sensibly conserved by all staff members.
- Ensure all cleaning and housekeeping jobs are completed within the shift.
- Promote accountability of staff for actions.
- Adhere and ensure adherence to all policies and procedures of the company.
- Undertaking Resident of the Day audit including a full white file check of all relevant paperwork for identified individual.
- Supervising and mentoring staff members in all aspects of their work, giving assistance and guidance where necessary.
- Mentoring and peer supervising care workers and ensuring the correct documentation is completed and any problems, issues or concerns are reported to the Manager/Deputy
- To support and assess new staff after their inductions and support the Trainer with the care certificate competencies.
Health & Safety
- Ensure that statutory health and safety standards are adhered to and by no act or omission is any resident, staff member, yourself, or another put at risk.
- Maintain and support the standards for infection prevention and control in line with agreed guidelines.
- Ensure that any damage to equipment, furniture, fittings etc. is reported immediately to management.
- Ensure that all resident’s personal belongings, company property and facilities are treated with respect.
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures are read, understood and adhered to.
- Support a safe working practice in the home.
- Report any unsafe working practice in the home.
General
- Promote a positive personal/professional profile within the local community, ensuring the good reputation of the home at all times
- Ensuring the security of the home is maintained at all times
- Adhering to all company policies and procedures
- Carrying out any additional tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you
Qualifications
Qualifications
- NVQ level 3 in care or working towards this qualification
- Medicines Management competency assessment
- Certified training or experience in the provision of care of those with a diagnosis of Dementia
- Certificated training or experience in the provision of care of those at End of life
Experience
- Minimum 2 years’ health or Social Care experience in a Care Home environment
- Experience of proactively conducting and managing Residents’ reviews taking account of the Resident or their representatives’ needs and wishes.
- Effectively managing a team in their day to day tasks
- Supervision of colleagues
- Knowledge and understanding of person centred care planning process and the relevant legislative and Regulatory requirements
